WHATEVER THE FUTURE HOLDS...

"Lucy..."

"Please, tell me the truth!" - Lucy whispered when the doctor held her hand.

"You should calm down, resting is very important for you and..."

"The baby! Did I lose my little girl? What about the baby?" - she cried, trying to read the man's eyes.

"... your baby."

"What?" - Lucy squeezed the doctor's hand, not understanding what had just gone on.

"I said resting is important for you and your baby, specially after this little adventure you two have been through." - the man explained warmly.

Lucy looked at him with stupidly happy eyes, her face finally softening in hot tears of relief.

"My girl is ok?" - She raised her eyebrows and cried, chewing on the inner part of her lower lip.

"Yes, 'mummy', your baby is perfect. We already checked it on the exams."

"Oh, God! Thanks... that's so wonderful, I felt so scared!" - Lucy confessed, her eyes getting even darker in fear.

"Shhh, it's ok now, lady. As I said before you need to sleep and recover. I've been told you need to be perfectly fine for the VMAs party."

Lucy smiled dreamily.

"Who told you that?" - she asked happily, her hand always caressing her belly softly.

"My daughter." - the doctor grinned. - "She's your fan."

"Aw! Thank you..." - Lucy's face brightened.

"Yeah, be sure to recover till tomorrow and I'll bother you asking for an autograph." - the man joked.

"Ok..." - Lucy giggled, finally laying back on that bed.

Lucy watched while the doctor went away briefly before coming back with something in his hands.

"Here are the pills I told you about. Take this and you'll sleep till tomorrow. I'll see you then, all right?"

"Sure."

Lucy did as he said.

The man smiled friendly at her once more before heading to the door and leaving.

Only some good minutes later that question popped up in her mind, and she wished she had asked the doctor about it. Who had brought her there? Who found her unconscious? But when Lucy realized the obvious answer was her butler she let it go and gave in to the weakness the pill made her feel...

----------------------------------------

The doctor walked in the white waiting room to see a man sat there, his hands resting on his knees, his eyes gazing some invisible point on the air.

"Mr. Littrell? Brian?"

He really took some time to cross the world of ideas he was living through and come back to earth to the person calling him.

"Yes? Doctor?" - Brian squeezed his eyes to see better. He hadn't been sleeping well during the whole past week because of his struggle in deciding what to do about Lucy... - "Is she all right?"

"Yes, yes... she is really fine. Lucy woke up half an hour ago, I talked to her and then gave her some pills for her to sleep and rest."

"Oh! She's up then?" - Brian seemed to wake up completely.

"I believe that not right now, but she will be tomorrow morning." - the man smiled.

Brian felt a sob within his chest and he shuddered softly.

"Oh, God..." - he closed his eyes and breathed deeply, his heart beating fast. - "Can I see her?" - he suddenly asked looking at the doctor again.

"Well... since she is sleeping I'd suggest that you did the same. If you want I can wake you up early tomorrow and you wait in her room until she's up too."

Brian agreed, although he didn't think he could wait one more second to see Lucy... It had been way too much time apart...

------------------------------------------------------------

Lucy woke up that morning with the doctor taking her pulse.

"Hm..." - she groaned softly, trying to understand what happened around her.

"Morning." - the doctor said letting go of what he was doing.

"Morning..." - Lucy whispered in a sleepy voice.

The man stood up and smiled warmly at her.

"I was just checking you again, lady, and you are perfectly fine to leave the hospital this afternoon."

"Thanks." - Lucy smiled faintly.

"If you excuse me, I have to visit another room."

Lucy nodded and watched the man go.

Alone once again Lucy closed her eyes, thinking of the VMAs in a couple of days. She thought of the little girl she would give birth to in some months. How could she be so sad....?

------------------------------------------------------------

The doctor was crossing one of the several white hallways of the hospital when suddenly a man stopped him by.

"Doctor, why didn't you wake me up? Its already nine, I... I want to see Lucy."

"Oh." - the man looked at Brian. - "I'm sorry. I just really thought you needed sleep. But anyway, Lucy is already up in her room. You can go there see her."

Brian's eyes shone and he smiled. He felt so fine and eager he couldn't help his heart from beating so fast and making him feel so good.

"All right, thanks."

The man watched with a smile on his face when Brian turned around and practically ran to reach Lucy's bedroom.

------------------------------------------------------------

Lucy sighed softly and closed her eyes. She didn't know why she felt so lonely, she didn't know why she wanted to cry. Everything was so... meaningless...

There were three knocks on the door.

"C'min." - Lucy opened her eyes and waited, not really looking at the door, not really wondering who was it. Not thinking at all.

Brian entered the room softly, when only the sound of Lucy's voice had made him melt in love and passion that had never abandoned his heart.

He made his way silently during a few steps, ever so smoothly approaching the bed, mesmerized by the figure lying on it. He was barely moving and though he felt breathless.

Lucy felt something grabbing her heart in a fast move and she finally moved her head in order to see who was the one walking in.

When Lucy put her eyes on Brian she sucked in her breath and her eyes got larger. Her voice was no where found.

Brian watched her perplex expression and he melted into a smile, locking his beautiful blue eyes on Lucy's black ones.

She needed to say something, she wanted to ask questions, she felt like screaming and crying due the swiftness her heart was beating in, but... but she couldn't even speak at the sight of that alluring man... the man she had always loved.

Butterflies spread all over Lucy's body when Brian came so close to her bed that she would be able to touch him only reaching out her hand. But Lucy didn't say a thing, she only stared deeply at him.

In that magic silence Brian reached out and held her hand within him, tears streamed down his face when he looked lovingly at Lucy.

For the first time the silence was broken.

"Brian..." - Lucy whispered.
