Miscellaneous
This is my favorite part. Here you'll find little tid bits, whether they are historical or having to deal with the behind the scenes of "The Mummy" and "The Mummy Returns". Don't mind me if I smile too much during this or get a little winded here. I usually find out all these interesting little known facts about movies and I love sharing them. It can be about the special effects they used or how a particular scene was supposed to be, or what he actor was feeling at the moment the scene was filmed. Right now, a lot of these are for the first movie, but a few for the second will pop up:) So enjoy:).
Arnold Vosloo, the actor who played Imhotep, was shaved head to toe everyday of filming for both movies. Reason behind it was that Ancient Egyptian Priests were shaved head to toe back then as well.
In "The Mummy" that really is not Oded Fehr on the horse riding around in the beginning when you couldn't see his face. You know, when the Med-Jai ride into the camp to scare of everybody? He said it was kind of embarrassing since he had spent a lot of time training with the horses and when it came time to film he had to make way for his stunt double. Thankfully, in the second one, that is Oded riding the horse in almost every scene. I think there was one or two where he didn't.
During the scene where Rick O'Connell is being hung for "having a
good time", that was Brendan Fraser really being hung in the close ups.
He has one or two stunt people below him pushing him up somewhat, but they didn't do that great
of a job since he actually passed out from it! He says he has the marks to prove it too!
In case most of your weren't paying close attention (I didn't the first time) Anck-Su-Namun is not wearing any clothes save that lion cloth type thing. All those lines you see on her chest are painted on. And the actress' body (Patricia Velasquez) was painted in gold first and then those lines were put on. The reasoning behind it is because she was the Pharaoh's mistress and no man was allowed to touch her. Well, what better way to make sure she didn't?
I know this should go in Historical Places, but what the hey. Hamunaptra never existed. The only City of the Dead I've been able to find is Petra in Jordan. Which ironically is where the scene where the balloon was being chased by the water was filmed:). I also have yet to find anything about Am Shere. When I do, I'll be sure to let you guys know.
Rachel Wiez (she played Evy) wanted her eyes done in the traditional Egyptian way, where they are completely outlined with black (other Northern African cultures still use it). The director Stephen Sommers gave in but only let her after the scene where she buys her new clothes after the boat caught fire and sank.
Not before. His reasoning is why would a librarian have that?
More to come...
