Diet's Showbiz Evolution "Before
all of these things happened, a schoolmate offered to
introduce me to a talent agency and I was very hesitant
because not even in my wildest dream did it occur to me
that I'd be facing the camera. I started with
commercials, modeling. I was discovered by one of the
head writers in ABS-CBN, introduced me to Johnny Manahan
and then I was asked to audition for Star Circle Batch 2.
I was busy with my studies and at the same time as a
bartender. It took several prodding before I said, yes.
But I never looked forward to it. I just tried to please
my friend. I did cameo roles in sitcoms and soap operas.
Maybe it was just incidental, because while I was
attending the workshop under Peque Gallaga, other
television commercials were offered to me. And when two
of my commercials were aired, it was then that I was
informed I would be a Star Circle member. And then, we
pioneered Gimik then Super Laff-in |

Today, Diet is one of the
matinee idols who sweep the girls off their feet. But he
is not just another good-looking star, he's showcased his
acting prowess in several films such as Calvento Files
the Movie, Dahil Mahal na Mahal Kita, Mula Sa Puso: The
Movie, Soltera and Bukas na lang Kita Mamahalin. He
envisions his future career, leaning towards the
technical aspects of filmmaking. "I wanna do an epic
war film, like Braveheart." At the rate of how
things are going with his career, that dream is not far
from reality. Away from the set, he is busy taking care of his restaurants, Cilantro and Oregano. We just thought of putting up a small coffee shop tapos parang when you start doing something parang you can't stop eh. So you thought of parang bringing in some more, like putting up an internet then a bar then..." Just recently, he was awarded 1999 Outstanding Filipino Achiever for Business and Industry by the Philippine Bantayog Jaycees. Who's the girl for Diether Ocampo? "Someone who's sincere, tidy and with sense of humor and with a voluptuous body and fair skin," Diet beams with that mischievous smile. If you are wondering how you can impress him, well, just give him a rum cake from Starbucks. |
