The Unofficial Jane Adams Fan Page

SITE UPDATES

December 15, 2009
So, big news: Jane Adams has officially been nominated for a Golden Globe for "Hung"! And I picked the worst time ever to get a life and stop updating this site. On the plus side, this could well provide the impetus I need to actually start doing that, now that I know you can watch the show on Hulu. On which note, you can in fact watch the show on Hulu -- including a bunch of truly beautiful daily meditations offered up by Jane's character which are entitled "Tanya: Reflections of a Pimp." One of them is about Emily Dickinson. I think that's all there is to be said about that.

I am not going to bother to make any ambitious "stay tuned for...!" promises, because I never follow through on them, and then I feel guilty and you feel sad. Or maybe I just feel guilty. But either way, I would like to move this site to a web host that does not have a "See also: Geocities" link at the bottom of its Wikipedia page. I would also like the site to not be full of illegible decade-old HTML markup. And it would probably be good to update it with information about the show for which she just got a Golden Globe nomination, seeing that this is a fan page and all. So, you know, we'll see how that goes.

The 2010 Golden Globes will be broadcast on January 17, 2010, at 8-11 pm PST on NBC. If you're reading this, you should watch them.

Hey! Apparently Jane is in a new HBO series called "Hung"! At first when I saw the title I thought I had a dirty mind. Then I found out it actually is about a guy with a big dick. So, uh. How about that.

At any rate, according to one of the reviews on IMDb, Jane is essentially "the pimp" for [dude with big dick, who turns to hooking due to the economic downturn]. So, uh. Unless this is a very weird show indeed, we are breaking with typecasting again! How... interesting this all is.

I would like to liveblog the episodes of this or at least keep a Jane-centric episode guide, because let's face it, if I'm even going to pretend to be updating this site I ought to be paying attention to an actual current ongoing TV show that she is actually currently in. But I don't get HBO, so we'll see what happens. My parents have TiVo, but I don't really feel like explaining to them that I would like them to record a television show about a hooker with a big dick so I can update a vaguely creepy fansite that I maintain for an actress they have never heard of. Perhaps I can find a better way of putting it than that. We shall see.

In the meantime, you can check out this post about the show on the Huffington Post, which I find absolutely hilarious because everybody is mad at each other but no one actually knows what anybody else is talking about. There is about a 75% consensus that there is satire going on somewhere, but no one seems to know whether it's the post that's satire (it's not funny) or if it's the show that's satire (probably, but I am not sure the Huffington Post really gets the concept of other people satirizing issues that HuffPo regards as Srs Bzns.) And then there is a bunch of completely unnecessary self-revealing wrt commenters' sexual preferences and the size of their boyfriends' penises. And I am thrilled that Jane is in a show that is watched by enough people to give rise to Official Internet Stupidity. I think she's arrived!

Anyway. It seems to be on on Sundays at... some time... ten o'clock, I think! Maybe! I don't know, the official HBO schedule page is totally impenetrable (hahaha! -- oh, this show is going to be bad for my ability to read single entendre). It lists OnDemand times every half hour and, dude, the whole point of OnDemand is that we can watch stuff at any time, so why can't HBO assume that we are clever enough to grasp that concept and just update with the times and dates of the *new* episodes for each week? I don't know why they do not think we are smart enough for that, but apparently they don't, so you can slog through your local listings on your own time.

Still working on cleaning up the site so that it's not full of outdated HTML and foreign characters. I finished the whole front page! The least content-rich, most irrelevant page on the whole site! Why did I do that first? Because it was easy.

Anyway, I plan to clean up the Summaries page next, so that the last half of it will not be basically illegible. Then streamlining and thumbnail-organizing of the photo gallery; then making the summaries page more useful with various links, as described below; then general updates; then... what? I'll hack Perez Hilton, redirect it here, and watch as Jane Adams becomes famous around the globe? Something. So stay tuned, if you've a mind to.

So as anyone who's visited before will probably have noticed, I'm starting to do a major revamp of this site. It turns out that when you don't change the HTML on a site for six years, eventually it gets outdated and starts looking weird. Who knew?

Stuff that's maybe coming down the pipeline if I ever get around to it: redesign of the photo gallery so it actually has like thumbnails and stuff; restructuring of the "Summaries" page so each summary includes a link to the movie's page on IMDb, RottenTomatoes, and Netflix; substantial updates regarding "Lifelines" (originally titled "Wherever You Are"), for which Jane is currently getting rave reviews; updated Interviews and Links pages; and more general prettiness, I hope. Unfortunately the general prettiness is being stymied by the fact that the computer on which I had a copy of Photoshop just bit the dust, and now I am struggling to figure out how to work GIMP. So far it is not really going so well, which is why no pictures on the front page. But I live in hope.

Anyway. Uh, stay tuned for more stuff! Or something.

Some updates on the Summaries page, one on the miscellaneous part of the photos section. There are three upcoming movies Jane's in, two of which look like she might have really decent-sized roles. Here's hoping! ::crosses fingers::

May 10, 2006
I finally got around to updating about Stone Cold in the summaries page, plus a couple of upcoming projects (one confirmed, one not so much). Enjoy.

February 22, 2006
Hello! To those of you who thought I'd abandoned this page completely, fear not; a year and change after my last update, here I am! It seems that adult life sometimes gets in the way of expending large amounts of time maintaining fanpages for celebrity crushes. Who knew?

Anyway, after a period of quiet, it seems that Janes career has gone (at least somewhat) splodey again, and so some updates seemed to be in order. Check the Summaries page for details on her latest and upcoming projects; last found onscreen in a small but type-breaking role in Last Holiday, she is now starring in what looks to be a fairly fantastic Robert Altman play. In London. Maybe someone who, yknow, lives on that continent can give me an update on that one. Im just hoping it crosses the ocean to hit Broadway when its finished its London run. In the event that it doesnt, we can find solace in the random grainy photographs I have managed to steal reproduce with credit from the Resurrection Blues webpage. Also in the two upcoming movies shes got on her IMDb roster currently, one of which (Four Women) looks to be a pretty big role for her. I guess its a good year to be a Jane fan.

Some brief updates to the summaries page - full info on Lemony Snicket is now up, and there's a little bit of info on an upcoming project as well. I have some Snicket updates for the photo gallery, too, but they're saved to my work computer and I'm on Christmas vacation (the wonders of working at an academic institution!) until the beginning of January. So you'll have to wait for them. Sorry.

So I found Bug on DVD at my local video store yesterday, completely out of the blue. It's that TV movie referred to a couple updates back - the one that came out this year that's only showing on Encore so far? In typical I'm-not-obsessed-no-not-at-all-I-merely-have-a-duty-to-my-webpage-readership fashion, I rented it, and it was quirky and passably amusing and all that. The only flaw is that it does not, technically, have Jane Adams in it. :P I went back to tv.now and checked, just to make sure I hadn't been hallucinating her name in the credits there or anything, and there it was. So I do not know what kind of crack they're smoking over at tv-now.com, but Jane is not in Bug, and therefore you've no reason to rent it unless you're a fan of weird implausible movies about the way one crushed bug can change the life of everyone on the planet. ::sigh::

A lone, blurry picture update in the photo gallery, which I mention only because it's the first publicity shot for Lemony Snicket featuring Jane that I've seen. I am eagerly anticipating this movie. Between the cast and what little I can tell from the photo gallery, it looks like they've really pulled out all the stops on this one. It looks like a great ScaryJane role; check it out.

May 17, 2004
And roughly two seconds after Langella's Tony nom was announced, they announced the closing date for Match itself: May 23. So much for a long run. I'm told that's fairly typical for plays on Broadway, but... for goodness' sake. :P Anyway, so yeah, if you want to get there, better do it quick. ::sigh::

May 10, 2004
A few new picture updates, scattered through the sections - most of them are in the "Rest of the Pictures" section at the end. Other than that, congratulations to Jane's costar Frank Langella on his Tony nomination for "Match". Nothing for Jane, but I don't know that I was really expecting that: she did a great job, but Langella was such a powerhouse everyone else got a little overshadowed. Speaking of Match, I don't know if it's at the half-price kiosk anymore, but there are rush tickets that you can get before the show, so check the website for that. I'm not the only one who liked it; it's getting pretty good reviews overall, and even the reviewers who don't like it have to acknowledge the strength of the acting. So go. :)

April 3, 2004
I updated, finally, with summaries and reviews of Eternal Sunshine and Match (at the top of the movies section and Broadway section, respectively.) Go have a look. Both of them are really worth going to see - especially Match, although that's not particularly convenient for anyone who lives more than a half-hour outside of New York City. Oh well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JANE!

March 30, 2004
So Jane is in a new Broadway play! Yay!! I actually got to see it last week, too, in one of the more impressive coincidences of my life: I had a trip to New York planned already, when my friend sent me an email along the lines of "So Jane Adams is in this play called "Match" that started in previews a couple weeks ago... you're a fan of hers, right?" Um, yeah. So I did get to see it. I don't have time to write the summary/review now, but suffice it to say it's a fantastic show. The play itself is impressive - written by Stephen Belber, one of the collaborators on the Laramie Project - but it's the cast that really makes it. It's a three-person cast: Frank Langella, Ray Liotta, and Jane, and all of them are just fabulous. Anyway, yes. It's currently in previews, and not attracting much attention thus far; when I went, there were tickets available at the half-price kiosk in Times Square. I doubt that will be true when the show officially opens and starts getting reviews, but then there'll probably be rush tickets available. So, yeah. If you can get there, get there. (And you can check out my autographed picture, complete with another installment in the Stupid Things Kelly Did When Meeting Jane Adams series. I'm on a roll here. God knows what silly thing will go wrong next time.)

March 4, 2003
Rather belatedly, I've finished what I started by adding a members listing to the fanlisting, without which it was kind of pointless. Oh, and now, instead of having to go through the hassle of emailing me to join the fanlisting, there's a form right there, and all you have to do is fill out a few fields and hit send! There are now precisely two members; aren't you just dying to be number three?

Oh, and just FYI, if you're a fledgling Jane fan looking to catch her in a few movies without spending a lot of time or money on it, this is a good month for you: for some reason, a bunch of her better movies are showing on basic cable this month (at least, I think IFC and FX are considered basic cable.) Check out the listings on tv-now.com for dates and times, and check out the summaries page for hints on which ones to bother with. :)

February 24, 2004
Introducing: The Jane Adams Fanlisting! For those of you who don't know, a fanlisting is pretty much what it sounds like - a list of fans for a particular celebrity, movie, TV show, whatever. I was browsing through thefanlistings.org the other day while telling myself I would begin jobsearching any minute, and, predictably, there was no listing for Jane. Ever eager to find better ways to procrastinate, I decided it was my God-given responsibility. Also, I figured if I started one, maybe I could put names to some of the IP addresses and domain names which show up repeatedly in my site counter (yes, repeat visitors, I know you're out there!) So, yes. Fanlisting. You know you wanna.

February 11, 2004
Ladies and gentlemen, the stupidest update yet: an About the Webmistress feature. Look, my girlfriend told me to. Blame it on her. Anyway, yes. Maybe it seemed vaguely hypocritical to be posting all this information about a woman I don't know and withholding any about myself? The problem is that no one cares about me, but whatever. It's there.

February 6, 2004
A few boring updates: a couple new pictures added to the gallery (a few in the Happiness section, a few more in the Rest of the Pictures section), and a summary of her role in the upcoming Lemony Snicket movie. I'm not sure how many more pointless updates I can make before I run out of them, but stay tuned!

January 25, 2004
So as of yesterday, I am a college graduate! Yes! I am now a full-fledged member of the Real World! Expect a whole ton of useless updates in the near future, as I flee headlong from it!

Heh, let's hope I actually find myself spending more time on monster.com than here. However, there are some updates already: I finally got around to putting an upcoming projects section at the start of the Summaries page, so go check that out. Oh, and I got this site listed on IMDb, finally, too. I rule. ::pumps fist victoriously::

December 20, 2003
So according to my site counter, this site is getting about three to five hits per week. Who the hell are all you people??*

:) No, seriously, hello to you all, and thanks for stopping by. Since I am now apparently getting, y'know, traffic, I thought a site updates feature might be in order. So...

As of 12/20/03, the photo gallery is newly revised. I've put up a few new pictures and taken down some of the more redundant/blurrier ones. Maybe the most significant change is that I've finally managed to find enough Songcatcher pics to group them together in their own section, rather than sticking one of them randomly in the miscellaneous section at the end of the gallery. Yay! Okay, so there are still only four, but check them out anyway.

In addition, if you stumble on this site before December 31, you have a chance to see the world-premiere run of an actual TV movie featuring the actual Jane Adams. Do I sound sarcastic and bitter? That would be because I don't get Encore. So unless some miracle happens with the cable subscription in my house, I will not be putting up a review of it in the summaries page anytime soon. Still, catch it if you can. The title's Bug, (odd name, much?), and the airing dates/times are up on tv-now.com . Anyway, check it out for yourself, since I won't be able to.

Jane also appeared in an episode of Law and Order this season, which I have not put up in the summaries section yet because... I'm lazy. Anyway, if you're interested you might want to cruise tv-now and tvguide.com for reruns of that as well; I'm sure it'll be showing up again soon.

I think that's all for now, except... sign my guestbook! I want to know who these 3-5 visitors a week are! (See below for guestbook link.)

*Though a more relevant question would be - how are you finding my site? As far as I can tell it's not listed on Yahoo or Google yet, so how are you coming across it? Spill.

INTRODUCTION

Hey, welcome to my Jane Adams* fan page ' and, coincidentally, to the first web page I've ever made, with significant help from Eve. I've been a fan of Jane's** for a couple years now, and while it's been kind of amusing in a jigsaw-puzzle sort of way to browse endless search links trying to come up with information on her, on the whole it's been more frustrating than not. A few other fan sites have popped up in the last six months or so (check my links page), but the bottom line is that it's just not that easy to find information on the woman.

However, I haven't spent dozens of bored afternoons over the last two years searching the 'Net for information on her for nothing. I figure if there's anyone else out there like me ' looking for more in-depth information on this talented actress, but unable to find it easily ' I may as well put what many people would argue represents a great deal of wasted time to good use.

Thus I present ::jazz hands:: this web page. This contains pretty much all the information I can give you about Jane Adams. I'll try to keep updating as time goes on, but at the very least here's a decent info base, along with some useful links if you'd like to delve further. Enjoy!
-Kelly

*Note to those of you who have somehow stumbled on this site without knowing who Jane Adams is: She's an actress. A really good one. Go on, browse the site. ::nudge::

** Further Note: Throughout this page, I've decided just to use the name 'Jane'; however, please don't take this as an implication that I'm on a first-name basis with the woman. Calling her by her full name over and over again gets tedious, and JA just makes me think of Ja Rule. Anyway.
