Soap Opera Magazine: Star Of The Week - OLTL's Florencia Lozano

They say that you'll always remember your wedding day, and after the gamut of emotions Téa experienced on her second go-round with Todd, the lovely legal eagle certainly had a day she'll never forget.

Ever since Téa and Todd first crossed paths and created a business agreement to be husband and wife, the beautiful Florencia Lozano (Téa) has shone as the smart, sophisticated lawyer who was more than a match for the cunning wit of Roger Howarth's Todd. The two characters eventually fell in love, but had to deal with a number of Todd's dastardly deeds before the stage was set for wedding No. 2. But little did Téa know that Todd's lies and betrayal would catch up to him and ruin what was supposed to be the happiest day of her life.

For her vulnerable, yet convincingly strong portrayal of a woman scorned, SOM awards Florenica Lozano Star of the Week honors. The ceremony eventually came off - despite its false start because Todd bolted in the middle of it - and the newlyweds embarked on their honeymoon. But things took a nasty turn when Sam accidentally played the tape in which Todd confessed to faking his split personality disorder, which Téa heard.

"I substituted the taped confession for betrayal, as if Todd were cheating on her," Lozano explains. "She realized she was being lied to all along, and I put that in my head and played it that way. Téa was blindfolded up until that point, and the blindfold finally came off."

As Téa's hatred of Todd grew, the show's writers scripted some suitably venomous words for her to Téam with the intensity and anger Lozano brought as an actress. "She calls him a rapist," Lozano illustrates. "I was glad they made it that strong. By saying out loud that he's a rapist, it was the only way she could push him away. She needed those weapons, both verbal and emotional, to cut the tie because it had been so strong."

But Todd, wanting to prove his love, forced Téa to hear him out. "It was high emotions all around," Lozano says. "That week I was [at the set] basically every waking minute, and I wanted to nail the stuff. I really tried to conserve my energy and make it all about the work for those seven days in the telling of Todd's story. Though it was tiring, I was really excited to go to those emotional places …. It's what you live for as an actor."

The powerful scenes had equally powerful subtext, since it was the last time Lozano would be working with Howarth, whose run with the show ended soon after the taping of those scenes. "That whole week - I think for both of us - was very emotionally high strung," Lozano admits. "I trust him so much as an actor, and I really treasure all that we were able to do together as actors. I definitely used his leaving as emotional fuel for my character. It touched me."
