Curtain Call - This Week’s Standing Ovation - OLTL’s Téa
Florencia Lozano

Téa Delgado thought nothing in the world could spoil the happiness she felt as she dressed for her wedding to Todd Manning. After everything they’d been through, this was the day they would put it all behind them and their life together would begin. What Téa didn’t know was that her world would come crashing down more than once on that special day. And what made it even more heartbreaking was the superb performance of Florencia Lozano as Téa, through the happiness and joy, amazement and disbelief of being betrayed.

When Téa arrived at the country club for her wedding, Todd suddenly decided that he couldn’t go through with it. Téa was shocked. After all she’d been through, she was now being left standing at the altar. Although everyone tried to convince her not to listen to Todd again, when he came to see her Téa did - and he convinced her that he’d made a mistake. He said he was scared but loved her and wanted to marry her. Téa took him back and the wedding proceeded. Soon, the couple were pronounced husband and wife, and shortly thereafter left to spend their first night together in a cabana at the country club. The scenes that followed were beautifully done and Lozano’s acting skill made us all feel the love she had for Todd.

Just as they were about to make love, disaster struck. Unknown to everyone, Todd’s young daughter had brought along the tape of Todd confessing that he never had DID but that he’d been faking the personality disorder. The tape was played and everyone at the wedding reception, including the bridal couple in the cabana, heard it piped over the public address system. Téa was furious. Once again, she’d been taken in by Todd. How much more could this woman take! Outraged by what she’d heard, tears streaming down her face, Téa vowed that Todd would never use her again. She’d had enough of his lies; there would be no life together for them.

What a powerful performance Lozano turned in. One moment, she was radiant, her life had been destroyed by the man she loved. "We had to find out that he was faking, it was a good thing," Lozano explains. "We all got our chance - Viki, Sam and Téa - to lay into him. Téa also played her part in the denial. She saw what she wanted to see, and that’s what she has to come to terms with. If she’d asked herself, ‘Who are you falling in love with and why, and what were you accepting from him?’ she would have been a little smarter. It’s a two-way thing - both of them contributed to it." Now Téa has to put the pieces of her life back together.

"She’s been dealt a big blow," Lozano admits. "The creepy, sad crazy thing about all these breakup scenes with him, where she finds out he’s been lying, there’s still this weird part of her, this little voice, and it’s still hard for her. It’s so weird. She thinks, ‘What’s wrong with me that the anger just doesn’t clear everything?’ The hard thing is that there are so many different emotions in there. There’s love there, too! It just doesn’t go away. What happens in the course of 24 hours is just insane. The honeymoon was over before it even started."

The honeymoon may have been over, but Lozano’s performance throughout those grueling days of scenes lives on.
