A Storybook Romance
Chapter Four
Lovejoy had searched the whole ship. Where did they run off to? He knew that Cal would probably be furious. Jack Dawson was now making his life a living hell. Now, it was personal. Lovejoy, himself, wanted Jack killed. And, he knew, that Cal would feel exactly the same way.
"Did you find them?" Cal asked with rage as Lovejoy walked through the door.
Lovejoy sighed and looked at his boss. "They ran fast. I do not know where they went to. I have looked everywhere, I assure you Mr. Hockley."
Cal cursed, and tried to figure out his next step. He knew to make his choices carefully, who knew how smart this third class trash was? He didn't want to loose Rose to that filth. What would society think of that? He didn't want to know, and he was going to make sure that he never found out.
"I have an idea..."
Jack took Rose back to his room. He was happy to find his room empty, the rest of the guys must have been out playing poker or goofing around. He took Rose and they both sat on the floor, bundled up in a blanket.
"I'm worried," Rose muttered, causing Jack to stare into her eyes.
Jack kissed her softly, he didn't even have to ask why. He already knew. What were they going to do about Cal? He wasn't sure. "You don't understand what kind of a man Cal is, Jack," Rose said, her worried eyes starring right back into Jack's.
"I do know," Jack said. "I've known him shortly, but I know how he is."
"So what do you think we should do?" Rose asked, wanting Jack to take all of her problems away. But not even Jack could make her life perfect. But, at least she was with him. That was something, wasn't it?
Jack smiled, even though Rose knew it was an act. "Do you just wanna try to talk to Cal again?"
Rose shrugged. "I don't think he will ever leave us alone."
Just then, they both heard a knock on the door. Jack stood up and went closer to the door. "Who is it?"
"You should know who this is Dawson," Cal said in an evil tone. "Both of you meet me at the stern of the ship in five minutes, or you'll be sorry."
Jack looked back at Rose who was now covering her face with her hands. Jack went over by her and wrapped his arms around her. Rose began to cry softly, wondering it this nightmare would ever end. "Shhh," Jack said rubbing her body softly. "It will be okay Rosie," Jack said friendly. "I promise."
After Rose got herself together, they walked up to the deck, hand in hand. Neither of them knew exactly what Cal was going to do, but they knew that it was time to face the music. This had to end.
"Ah," Cal said, once they approached them. "You showed up."
Cal looked down at their hands held together and grinded his teeth. He just couldn't take it anymore.
"What do you want, Cal?" Jack asked, not showing any fear.
"I'm glad you asked that Jack," Cal said back, a bit sarcastically. "I want my fiancee back. You see, I'm calling the shots."
Jack shook his head, not really believing what this man was saying. He didn't control Rose, she would do what she wanted to do. Jack knew Cal was a dangerous person. The thing that he was worried the most about was Rose getting hurt.
"Cal," Rose said as he turned his head towards her. "It's over. You know that."
A slight laugh escaped Cal's lips, making Rose and Jack wonder exactly what he was thinking. "Dawson," Cal said. "Can I please have a word with you?"
Jack nodded. He turned around and kissed Rose's hand. "I'll be right back." Rose smiled. She hoped that maybe he could make things right. Was that even possible? She would soon find out.
"Listen Jack," Cal said, once they were alone. "You don't know what kind of trouble you are getting yourself into."
Jack took a step forward, proving he was not scared of the man in the tuxedo. "I know exactly what I'm doing, but do you do? Rose doesn't want to be with you. She does not love you.."
"She does not know what love means," Cal said with a snicker. "Obviously."
"Just stay away from us, alright?" Jack asked, very ticked off. "And if you don't, then you'll know the meaning of the word pain."
Cal started to laugh again, and he said, "You better go check on your darling, Rose."
Jack wondered what he meant, and then he realized something. He had just left Rose alone. That's exactly what Cal wanted to happen. Jack raced out of that small room and back onto the deck, and Rose was gone. He went back into that room, ready to beat the crap out of Cal, but he was gone. They had Rose...and Jack needed to get her back. Soon.
