Pain Is Love

Chapter Two

Two weeks had gone by since the encounter with Jack. Rose's life had pretty much went back to normal...except of course for the endless dreams of Jack.

Rose's mind flew back to reality when she heard her cat scream. "It will be alright, Q-Tip," Rose said to her white and black kitten, although she knew it was a lie. Her mom was forcing her to get rid of the kitten because it went to the bathroom in all the wrong places. (Including Ruth's private bathtub.) Luckily, someone responded to Rose's ad right away. That's where she was going now.

The dark, brick house didn't settle Rose's stomach at all. Not only was she giving up her little kitten, but she had to give it to a dump like this? She sighed and decided that she had no choice.

As she walked up to the door, she realized that Jack lived not too far away from where she was at.

She rang the doorbell and a tall, muscular man came to the door. He appeared to be in his early to late forties, and he had a patch over one eye.

Rose's heart skipped a beat and couldn't let a man like this take her precious Q-Tip. "There must be some mistake..." Rose muttered.

"No...no mistake girlie..." the man said, starring Rose up and down. "I'm the guy who wants your pussy."

Rose was outraged. "Excuse me?!"

Before Rose could say anymore, the man grabbed her into his house.

"Please...let me go..." Rose said, tears in her eyes. "I..."

"Shut up!" He said, throwing her to his couch.

Just then, the doorbell rung again. "Shit," the man said. He pulled Rose up by her arm and threw her into what looked like to be his bedroom. He locked the door behind him. Rose started screaming to get out until a thought came to her. She remembed her cell phone in her purse. She pressed #1 speed dial. Cal.

"Hey, it's me Cal. I can't come to the phone right now. I'm attending with my father at..." Rose hung up before the end of his message.

Then, something caught Rose's eye. Jack's card. She immediately pulled it out of her purse and dialed his number.

"I owe you. You need anything...anything at all. I'll be there."

"Yo."

"Jack...Jack...oh my gosh...I...."

"Rose? What's wrong? Where are you?"

Rose was even to scared to wonder how he knew it was her like that.

"This man...I think he's going to kill me...I need help!"

"It's okay...calm down. Where are you?"

"382 Jersey Street."

"Just hold on, Rose," Jack said and then hung up.

Rose would have called the cops, but she had seen way too many movies. The killer always heard the sirens and ended up killing the girl out of rage. This way was smarter. But...she couldn't just wait around for Jack to save her. She went to the window and tried to open it, although it had steel bars.

A matter of minutes went by before the man came back to get Rose.

"Baby...we can do this the hard way or the easy way."

Rose took a vase that was neat by and threw it at him, and then he grabbed his head in pain. "That does it bitch!" You could see the blood trickle down his face. "Not only am I gonna fuck your brains out...but I'm going to cut your little body to pieces."

"You sure about that?"

The man turned around to see a blonde haired boy staring at him with a gun. Rose sighed with relief.

"Hey now...buddy...I didn't mean anything by it..."

Jack didn't put his gun down. "Bull shit. Rose, come over here."

Rose stood behind Jack where she was safe from harm.

Then...they heard sirens in a distant.

"You called the..."

"The cops. Yep." Jack smiled then said to Rose, "We need to get the hell out of here."

They climbed out a nearby window, with Jack pointing the gun at the man's head the whole way. Jack and Rose stood at the window until they heard the cops come through the front door. Rose picked up her cat before they ran off into the night.

"Thank you."

Rose, for the first time, was talking to Jack like she wasn't better than him.

"It was my pleasure," Jack said, putting out his cigarette.

"But...I do have a question. Why did we have to leave before the cops came?" Rose asked, slowly petting her kitten.

"Let's just say that them and me aren't on the best of terms." He smiled at Rose and put his arm around her. "I'm just glad you're safe." Jack looked down for a moment. "And, now I have a question for you."

"Shoot."

"Why didn't you call your boyfriend?"

"How did you know I had a boyfriend?"

Jack laughed. "Caledon Hockley. Captain of the football team." Rose noted that he still hadn't explained how. "Why did you call me?"

"He didn't answer his cell."

"Oh." Jack was quite for a moment. "Sorry he's like that."

"Like that?"

"Yeah."

Rose could feel Jack's breath on her skin.

"You need someone who's always going to be there, Rose." Rose pretended to ignore the things he was saying, although she was listening intently. "I've never met this Hockley character...but I bet I can tell you everything about him right now."

"Oh, yeah?" Rose said back sarcastically.

"Yep. He's always there...always...except of course when you actually need him. You wait at home on Saturday nights for him to call you...just like he told you to do...but he never calls, and the next day at school you hear people gossiping about the blonde haired hoe he was with over the weekend."

Rose could feel her heart beat faster and faster...he knew Cal better than she did. But...how? Was it really just a guess?

"You deserve so much better."

Jack leaned in and kissed her.
