“Crazy For You”, released just one month after
“Material Girl” first hit the airwaves, quickly became Madonna’s
second #1 single. The
song, a sweet love ballad featured in the 1985 film, Vision Quest, was
by far the most
mature and respected of all Madonna’s singles up until that
point. Madonna seems to treat the vocals
with
exceptional tenderness and even a tinge of country,
garnering her a little musical respect, something she desperately
longed for and hoped to achieve in her music. “Crazy For You” remains one of the most
popular love songs of all
time, and continues to be played regularly on various radio
stations. The song’s huge success was
also important
in helping to pave the way for the future ballad, “Live to
Tell”, which, just one year later, would also top the charts.
The video simply features Madonna singing in a nightclub,
along with various other clips from the Vision Quest film.
"Crazy For You" became so popular that in many
countries the movie was actually renamed Crazy For You to
capitalize on name recognition. Also, the song was ranked at #78 by the ARC
Weekly Top 40 on a list of the top
100 songs of the 1980's.
Rankings are based on a combination of airplay, sales statistics, and
video play.
