Text Box: Madonna, performing "Holiday" in 1983 on the tv show, Solid Gold.“Holiday”, the third single release from Madonna’s debut album, proved that the third time is indeed a

charm.  The song climbed all the way to #16 on the Hot 100, giving Madonna her first mainstream top

40 hit.  "Holiday" was also her first of many singles to peak at #1 on the Club Play chart, staying put

for a staggering five weeks.  In fact, the dance hit is tied with "Music" for spending the most weeks at

#1 out of all Madonna's singles to appear on the Club Play chart.

The song remains a Madonna staple even today and is in fact one of her personal favorites.  It is the

only song that she has performed in each and every of her concert tours.  The song’s lyrics are

childishly simple but are irresistibly fun and catchy.  With a great beat and the unforgettable chorus

line “if we took a holiday, took some time to celebrate, just one day out of life, it would be, it would

be so nice”, it’s no wonder the song is now a pop classic.

A video was shot for the 1983 release of the song, but for some reason was never released.  Later, a

video was attached to the song, taken from a live performance during 1990’s Blonde Ambition Tour.

The same footage can also be seen in Madonna’s 1991 documentary, Truth or Dare.
