"Rescue Me" was the second of two new songs released on Madonna's 1990 greatest hits compilation,
The Immaculate Collection. The song is, by far, one of Madonna's most underrated and overlooked singles.
Similar in style to "Justify My Love", it featured spoken-word verses and one of Madonna's most powerful
vocal performances to date. However, released during maximum Madonna media saturation, and with no
video to increase exposure for the song, "Rescue Me" was overshadowed by the plethora of Madonna
movies, albums, and other hit
singles released at the time.
The song did, nonetheless, do quite well on the charts. It peaked at #9 on the Hot 100 but surprisingly
missed the top of the Club Play chart, her only dance single to do so between 1987 and 1995. The song has
also been certified gold; rather odd considering some of Madonna's far more successful singles have not.
