Mariners Facts
Started playing as a team in 1977.
One of the original owners was the late Danny Kaye, (who was actually a Dodgers fan).
Became only the second team in Major League history to win 116 games in a season (the 1906 Chicago Cubs were the first).
Signed the first Japanese born position player (Ichiro).
Began playing at Safeco Field on Thursday, July 15, 1999 (they played the San Diego Padres who won the game).
DH Edgar Martinez was inducted into the Hispanic Hall of Fame on 9/9/03.
At the end of the 2004 season, Ichiro Suzuki tied and past George Sisler's
60 year old record for the most hits in a single season. You go, Ichiro! :)
