Proof of Life Filmed - Feb, 2000 – end of July, 2000
Risk
Management "consultant" Terry Thorne who bends company policy
to help Alice Gehrig retrieve her husband,
who has been kidnapped by anti-government guerrillas in South America. In
Proof of Life, a kidnap drama with Meg Ryan in which he plays a
hostage negotiator who falls in love with the wife (Ryan) of the man
he's trying to save. Director Taylor Hackford has asked Crowe to play
the role in his own accent. Although the film is set in Columbia, much
of the filiming has been done in Ecuador. Russell has performed some of
his own stunts in the movie and said this about the stunts "Some
people think hanging off a helicopter without a safety line at 70 feet
is grave danger but my attitude is, if your concentrating, it's
not" Proof
of Life is a very well done tight movie about real situations. Russell
plays Terry Thorne a ex-special forces operative who is currently a
hostage negotiator. He gets drawn into an intense negotiation in South
America for the return of an American engineer. Russell's controlled,
dangerous, smart portrayal of Thorne made this one of my favorite
movies. He is the epitome of who you would want on your side if your
world was turned upside down and a loved one was kidnapped. David Caruso
and David Morse are also in this film and Caruso in particular adds much
too it. Released
on December 8th, 2000 Synopsis::
