Alyson Hannigan was born on March 24th, 1974 in Washington DC. Her parents were called Al and Emily and they divorced when Alyson was only 2. She moved with Emily to Atlanta. Both her parents were photographers and Alyson used to pose for them as a child. Emily still lives in Atlanta and works in real estate and Al is now a truck driver living in Missouri. Aly started appearing in commercials at the age of 4 including McDonalds (what is it about Buffy stars and fast food ads!).
Aly went to visit her dad in California when she was 11. While she was there, she began to get offers from various agents who wanted to represent her. After going back home to her mother, they talked over the possibilities that moving to California could offer the young Alyson, so Emily decided to move to California.
Alyson's first major role was in the movie "My Stepmother Is An Alien". A person who had a small role alongside Alyson in this movie was Seth Green who later played Oz, the boyfriend of Alyson's character Willow in Buffy. Aly also regularly appeared in a series called Free Spirit and Seth also had a role in one episode of that series!
When Buffy The Vampire Slayer was casting, Aly had to do over half a dozen auditions before the door finally opened for her. Looking back now, after 7 seasons, it is impossible to imagine any other actress playing the role of Willow.
Alyson again ventured into movies in 1999 when she appeared in the teen movie "American Pie" and then the two sequels "American Pie 2" and "American Wedding" in which her character Michelle gets married.
Alyson herself got married in real life to her Buffy co-star for a couple of series, Alexis Denisof who played very English watcher Wesley Wyndham-Price who replaced Giles as Buffy's watcher when he got sacked by the Watchers Guild.
