Hollywood Exclusive: The Big-Screen Scene

(Tuesday Febuary 12, 2002 From the San Francisco Chronicle)

Indie film "It Boy" Ryan Gosling admits he's been working on a record- but the 21-year-old Mickey Mouse Club alumnus from the class of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and Keri Russell insists that he has no intention of following the musical path of many of his preteen pals.

"I'm making this record in my house, and I may release it when I'm 45," he laughs. "That's my goal as far as music's concerned."

Gosling- whose recent listening pleasure has ranged from punk to bagpipe music- has his plate full without singing. He's been gaining much attention with the recent Sundance Film Festival pleaser "The Slaughter Rule" and the forthcoming Showtime original picture "The Believer," for which he recently received an Independent Spirit Award best actor nomination. And now he's breaking into studio pictures, co-starring with Sandra Bullock in the forthcoming "Murder by Numbers."

He says of the actress, who also produced the psychological thriller, "I was really surprised at how focused and talented she is. She's very subtle and really understands the ins and outs of filmmaking, especially the technical aspects."
