123 The One with the Birth

Everyone arrives at the hospital for Carol's delivery. Ross and Susan fight and end up getting locked in a janitor closet along with Pheobe. Pheobe puts on a bodysuit (that reads the name Ben) to climb up in the vent to find help; Rachel flirts with the doctor... for a while; Phoebe sings and makes a lot of sense; Joey helps a single mother, Lydia, give birth; Monica yearns for a baby of her own; Chandler tries to comfort her, but isn't totally successful. The baby is named Ben, after Phoebe.

• June Gable, who plays the nurse in this episode, is the same woman who has the recurring role of Estelle Leonard, Joey's agent. As the series aired in 1994-95, the character had not been shown yet; perhaps the writers gave her the part due to Estelle being chopped out of episode 6.
• Jonathan Silverman, who plays Dr. Franzblau in this episode, attended Beverly Hills High School with David Schwimmer along with fellow classmate Nicolas Cage.
