Beautiful People of 2002
Travis: emperor of underwear
Travis Fimmel, Calvin Klein's 22-year-old Australian poster-boy, arrives barefoot to discuss his racy ads for those super-duper tighty-whities. Fimmel, who ends almost every sentence with "mate," shifts nervously when talking about his newfound pretty-boy fame. "I'd love to be recognized for something different than being the guy in his underwear," he says. "I get laughed at by all my mates back home. It's embarrassing. It's terrible."
After growing up on a dairy farm in rural Echuca, Australia, Fimmel now lives in L.A., where he hits the waves on his surfboard in Malibu and is a regular at Hollywood hot-spots. "I do nothing here," he admits with a shrug. "We sit at home, go to the beach, go get a drink." But the underwear king stresses that he has no designs on becoming a male super-mannequin. "I don't want to do modeling," he confesses. "It bores me to death, sitting around all day. It's the easiest job in the world, but the most boring, too."
A seasoned jet setter, his biggest passion is traveling. He lived in Europe before moving to California, and loves Amsterdam and Thailand. "I just want to go away for a while," he says, his sea-blue eyes searching out into the distance. "I'll probably go to Asia or New Zealand. I really don't know, mate. My plan is to make a plan. I don't even know what I'm going to do tomorrow."
