Fame, by Erin
What had happened to them? Was it the fame that had caused all of this?
Greg tried to remember as he looked at Wayne across the room, not knowing Wayne and all the other guys were thinking the same thing. These men had at one time been the best of friends. They looked forward to their long hours of taping Whose Line is It, Anyway? together. Laughing, and as always, enjoying one another's company.
This was no longer true. These men couldn't stand to be with one another anymore.....bitterness had taken over their once family-like closeness. Ideas flew through Greg's mind, as well as the other's minds. Was it that too much time together tears you apart in the end? Then, thoughts flew through their minds once again. There was only one obvious answer to why they were like this.....the fame had finally gotten to them all.
Over time Whose Line got more and more successful. Each and every week more and more people watched; each and every week more and more money was shoved deep into their pockets. More cameras were shoved into their faces, more awards were placed on their mantles. At one point Whose Line was higher rated than Friends! The men of Whose Line couldn't be beat, they were IT. They WERE comedy!
Yes, it had to be the fame, the glory, the greed that tore these once close friends apart. The need to shine above the rest....make more money, have more awards.....and more fame. Greg's thoughts deepened, What a cruel word that is...I once thought it was the best thing to have, but what's it worth really? You only have it for a short while before you HAVE to let it go....is it worth losing friends I have had for over 10 years now?
Greg considered the thought a moment more before he pressed himself off the wall he was leaning against for support and took a step forward. The others re-directed their attention towards him. This reaction surprised Greg, up until this moment the others had done a fairly good job at ignoring him completely. Why did they decide to listen now? Perhaps, he thought, they are ready to forgive and forget as well.
He took a deep breath and stood tall. In front of his co-workers Greg spoke
words that they would NEVER forget. The men in that room changed that night.
They put all of their petty differences aside, and once again were reunited as
the best of friends. All because Greg Proops had the courage to speak two simple
words.....I'm sorry.
