The Countess of Wessex

FULL NAME: Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones

BIRTHDATE: January 20, 1965

Was born at the Nuffield Maternity Home in Oxford

PARENTS NAMES: Christopher and Mary

BROTHER: David [he's two years older and is married to a woman named Zara (not another one!)]

Was named Helen after her father's sister, who was tragically killed in a riding accident more than ten years before she was born

Her family lived in the village of Ickford in Buckinghamshire, but shortly after she was born they moved to Brenchley

Her father was an overseas representative for a car manufacturer

Their home is "Homestead Farmhouse", a four-bedroom 17th Century thatched farmhouse on the edge of Brenchley. This is where Sophie grew up. It is still their home

Sophie and her brother both attended Dulwich College Preparatory School in Cranbrook, about nine miles from Brenchley

Sophie started going to the school when she was only four years and nine months old

After Dulwich, Sophie went to Kent College For Girls at Pembury

Took 8 'O' Levels and 2 'A' Levels at school (not sure of the North American equivalent) and then travelled

Sophie left school at age 16 and enrolled in a 2 year secretarial course at the West Kent College of Further Education in Tonbridge

Her first job was as a waitress at a pub called The Halfway House just outside Brenchley

She was a PR representative for many years, but earlier this year (2001) she quit her job after some embarrassing moments in the press
