The Clinton Depot's Past, Present... & Future?
Memories of the Depot by Clinton Citizens
My Depot Memories
by Tara Fletcher
I have a lot of happy memories of the Clinton Depot. I remember for the Centennial, in 1983, how my grandmother, Agnes Fletcher, helped pitch in with many, many other people in town to get the depot all ready for the 100th Celebration. She always liked to be involved in the community and she was very proud to be a part of this town and of the depot restoration. She also donated some family items to be put on display in the depot, as did many other people.
I also remember all the birthday parties and picnics we had at the depot park. My brother, cousins, and I all had our birthdays in the summer and our families always had the parties there together. It is such a nice setting and the depot is such a great historic landmark for us to have in Clinton. Every time I drive or walk by there I think about all the history of Clinton that had taken place there and of all the wonderful memories I have of the Clinton Depot.
My Depot Memories
by Carlton Fletcher
Almost every boy's dream is to have their own dog, and when I was twelve or thirteen, I had save up enough money from my allowance and my chores, to buy one of my own. I decided that I wanted a German Shepard, I had read a lot about them, and I was a big fan of Rin-Tin-Tin. I found an ad in the newspaper for German Shepards and called the people, who lived in Little Falls.
I decided to order a puppy, and it cost me $35. The cheapest way for me to get my new dog to Clinton was by train (in those days we didn't just hop in the car to go get something like we do now). I was so excited to meet my new puppy. It seemed like it took forever for the day of his arrival to get here, but when that beautiful spring day came, I rushed over to the depot after school to get him. We lived out west of Clinton at that time, and my dad was in town to pick me up after I got my new dog. My new pride and joy arrived at the Clinton Depot in a wooden animal crate. He was about eight weeks old and was a really cute puppy. I was so happy to finally have my dog. I named him King. I had King for several years, and he was a very good dog, whom I will always remember. And the depot will always be in my memory as the place where I got my first dog.
