How can I post a picture in the forum?
In order to post a picture in the forum, it must be online. This means that you have to have some webspace. And if you want to post a file in your account in the forum, your webspace provider must allow hotlinking.
ShatteredSword provides this description of hotlinking:
For those who don't know, hotlinking is defined as being able to display a picture on a site where the image is not hosted.
Ever wondered why your new pic is always replaced by an image that says something along the lines of "this image is hosted by (host name here)"? This is the host blocking your image from being displayed.
To understand why hosts do not allow hotlinking, you must understand the concept of bandwidth: bandwidth is the enchange of information between your computer and the server. Bandwidth costs money. You are usually alloted a certain amount of bandwidth/month when you sign up with a host and you are expected to pay more per megabyte of bandwidth.
When you display a picture on this board, it doesn't use your bandwidth or this server's bandwidth. It uses the bandwidth of the site on which your image is hosted. How would you like it if someone came over to your house while you were on your computer and began downloading files? This same concept works with hotlinking but on a larger scale. If a large host like Angelfire or Tripod allowed hotlinking, it would end up costing them a _very_ large amount of money. It could even end up slowing down the host because, as I said, it's like downloading a file.
If you want to have your pic hosted, there are a few free providers that allow hotlinking. I don't know which ones because free hosts are disappearing quickly. Hosts that allow hotlinking disappear quicker than others, so be prepared to change hosts as often as once or twice a month.

good luck!
If the image you want to display in/link from the forum is hosted somewhere like Geocities, Angelfire, or Tripod (as well as many other free webhosts) the picture will not show up!
Yes, the picture must be online.
If it is merely on your computer, we will not be able to see it.
No, the forum does not have an upload feature.
If the picture is online in a place that allows hotlinking (2 examples: AOL Hometown [which sucks, but I use it to upload pics that I want to display on the forum] and Webspawner). You can display the picture inline (which means, in your post) by:

This is iB code (ikonCode) which is described in the Forum Guidelines/Help below. To display the picture, simply enclose the picture's URL between .
If you're willing to wait a little while, for example, if you're wanting to post your picture in the "Pictures" thread, you can e-mail me the file and I'll upload it to my Hometown account and give you the URL to use.
A few more notes on pictures...
Any picture you want to share with people online should be in .jpg or .gif format. Pictures of people generally look better in .jpg format. Again, if you don't know how or can't make a file .jpg or .gif and have patience, you can send it to me and I'll convert it. .bmp files are generally too large to trade over the internet.
