Functional and Dysfunctional Conflict – Functional conflict is a way to solve problems that usually ends in a solution in an orderly manner. Functional Conflict is productive because it brings up questions, which in turn calls for change. Dysfunctional conflict is more chaotic as it usually leads to violence or use of force. This breaks any common ground between the two sides therefore leaving no time for communication and problem solving.
