There are four U.S. Cavalry sets
available, the first was issued by Airfix, the second by Atlantic, the
third by Imex, and the fourth by Italeri. The first two sets are
nearly impossible to find in the U.S. The Imex set is very unsatisfying.
The horses are decent, but the riders are all firing to the side.
When posed en masse, they appear to be shooting at each other!
Fortunately, the Italeri set more than compensates.

These Italeri figures are very beautiful. The set comes with a standardbearer, but the cavalry guidon is sculpted incorrectly, with national colors on one side and regimental colors on the other. A conversion of another figure in the set with a pianowire staff and paper colors from warflag provide a suitable figure. The soldier firing his carbine is a hot water conversion, with the figure twisted so that his fires to the front.
