In 1950 the West Australian government stopped maintaining the
Northern half of the fence because they could no longer maintain the
fence, those who vested the interest in bringing the rabbits over
could. The rabbits also found there own way under meaning that the
fence had failed its main purpose. Today the fence is still
maintained in some parts of the Western Australian to stop migrants
of emus, dingo's and kangaroos into agricultural areas. A lot of
damage to the fence was caused by roos and emus that had charged it
in the wet season. Rats has also made their way through the fence.
Rabbit proof fence was the longest joined fence end the world and
still holds the record today.
