How Pippin and Jen Met
HOW WE MET:
I worked as a barmaid at the Prancing Pony, and
Pippin walked in and sat at a table. As I served him
his ale, we began to talk (since it wasn’t very busy
that night) about many things, from food to flowers.
After a few hours, he left.
He began coming every day
for two weeks, and though most of the time I was too
busy to talk for long, we always said hi. He seemed to
want to ask me something, but he never did until the
end of two weeks, when the tavern was almost
completely empty, I sat down for a while to talk. When
we finished our discussion on pipeweed, Pippin
started:
“Would you like to-”
“Yes.” I answered before he finished.
He smiled, and
we decided when we would meet and where we should go
for our first date
(we went walking through the woods
and he told me of his adventure with his friend Merry
Brandybuck).
HOW HE PROPOSED:
We’d been dating for about three months when he
started sending me bouquets of flowers every day,
until the living room was full of flowers and I had to
move flowers to sit down.
When he came to drop off
another bouquet, I was rather upset. I was tired of
sneezing. I told him to stop sending flowers. He
smiled and handed the flowers to me anyway, and he
walked past me into the house.
I followed him in and
put the flowers on the already-covered coffee-table.
After I asked him again to stop sending flowers, he
answered me:
“Not ‘til you marry me.” he said. I stood shocked as
he took out the ring.
“Well?” he asked me. Smiling, I told him yes, on one
condition:
He helped me clear out all the flowers.......
