Pirates 2, Brewers 6

Box Score

Player of the Game: Russ Branyan

Record: 4-2

What an outstanding opening day!  It’s great to have tailgating and baseball back for the spring and summer.  I encourage all of you to read the Recap in the box score to see what yahoo had to say about Ruscle Branyan and his amazing home runs.

The story of the game clearly was Branyan.  While things such as Brady Clark’s home run, a decent game by Doug Davis, and good work from Wise and Adams helped the cause, Branyan carried the team on his back and brought opening day happiness to all at Miller Park.  I just hope you all remember that I was the first one on the Bran-wag-an.

What can I say about the home runs?  Well, the first one was perhaps longer than the one he hit off of Maddux last year.  Even if it wasn’t, those two rank as the top two longest home runs I’ve ever seen during a live game.  The guy is an absolute monster.  Though they say he has shortened his swing, I can’t anticipate his batting average to remain so high.  He has cut the strikeouts down a bit, but expect a .240 average with a .340 OBP and massive slugging by the end of the year.  That’s still a damn good thirdbaseman.

There’s really not much more I can say.  You really just had to be there.  Sorry, folks.  Let’s keep up the good work against the Pirates, though I doubt Branyan will be in the lineup on Tuesday and Gary Glover will be starting….so, it may be a tough task.  Go Brewars!
