Player of the Game: Don “Cy” Wadewitz (3-3,2B, 3B,RBI)
The boys of Club Tap tried to shake their early
season woes this past Friday night against Concours Motors, but the Tappers
were unsuccessful, falling 5-2.
With runs at a premium, the Tappers were only able
to plate two runners the whole game, with RBI from PotG Don Wadewitz and
right-center patrolman Goggles Christel.
The first run, scored by Rock 102.1’s own Ryan “Papa” Miller, was the
result of a Miller sharp single followed immediately by a scorching two-bagger
by Wadewitz in the bottom of the 2nd inning. The Tappers had a chance to put a few more
runs across that inning with Wadewitz on 2nd base and one-sacker
Nate “Skip” Adams on 1st after a 3-pitch walk, but Dave “Glove”
Eskra flew out to end the threat.
The runners-left-on-base theme would continue
throughout the rest of the game as the Tappers left the bases loaded in the
bottom of the 3rd frame.
Goggles Christel led the inning off with a tricky double to shallow
right, followed by a foul out by James Riebe.
Jimii “Pianolegs” Hanley then walked, and the manbeast Triebs singled,
giving the Tappers the bases loaded with only one out. It was all for naught however as fill-in A.J.
Minotte fouled out and third-sacker Chris “Crizzle” Carlson grounded back to
the pitcher for the final out of the inning.
The very next inning saw the Clubbers leave the
bases loaded once again as Wadewitz, Adams, and Christel all singled in the
inning, producing a run. Patiently, with
2 outs, Riebe worked a walk, and clean-up man Hanley came up with the bags full
once again with Tappers. Hanley made a
rare out, popping out to short and ending the threat. The Tappers left a whopping 15 men on base in
this contest, ultimately leading to their demise.
Overshadowed by the Tappers lack of offense was the
masterful pitching display by Wadewitz, who worked himself out of a number of
jams by inducing 7 strike/foul outs in a wind that was playing tricks with the
pitchers on both sides all night long.
The weather was a major factor in a game filled with
gaffs and guffaws, as balls that looked like they were headed in the direction
of the left fielder would soon swirl their way over into shallow
right-center. “How could we lose to
these guys?” “All they’ve got is the
Great White Hope at first!” and “It had to be the weather” were some of the
sentiments heard uttered by the Tappers after the heartbreaking loss.
The boys of Club Tap will try to turn the season
around and notch their first win this coming Friday with their game against
Thumbs Up Pub I at 7:30 at West Milwaukee Park.
