Box Score

After a slow and familiar start, the fellas of Club Tap decided to finally kick it into gear and dispose of their unworthy counterparts from Concours Motors 14-5. After three innings of softball that resembled a scrimmage from a third grade Phys. Ed. class, the Tappers rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the fourth inning and never looked back. Speed kills and the Tappers definitely exploited their all-around team speed by taking the extra base and putting the pressure on the Motors’ fielders. Skip Adams motored out an infield single on his way to scoring a game-high three runs and Pianolegs Hanley padded Riebe’s RBI total by tagging and scoring from second on a fly ball. The bases were loaded for the local inebriated funnyman—whose OBP in the last three weeks has been tops on the club—and he did not disappoint with a two-run single to center. It seemed to be just the spark the club needed as from then on the bats could do no wrong.

Over the next two innings the Tappers plated 14 runs and put the game on ice as if it were a case of Blatz.  The pitching proved to be outstanding as Barse, who had joined the club that week thanks to a splendid waiver pickup by manager/GM Hanley, allowed only four runs and a single walk through his five innings of work.
Quite possibly the most intriguing sign from the Tappers lineup was that everyone reached base and 9 of 10 players either scored a run or drove one in. This could be a sign of things to come as the team finally appears to be shaking off its early-season funk and playing some good softball.

By far, the funniest play in the game was when Adams chugged from third toward the plate and an eminent collision with the other team’s putridly frail catcher. The throw was a tad late and Adam’s momentum coupled with his stubborn refusal to slide carried him past the plate and into a tumble that resembled Dorothy’s house free falling to the earth before crushing a wicked witch in Oz. He survived the tumble and caught his breath before heading out to the field after the inning.

The Tappers will have the holiday weekend off and will take the field in two weeks against Thumbs Up Pub at 6:30 pm.
