As its common name suggests, this fish is a very large Puffer that needs
a huge tank in order to thrive. They originate from the middle and lower
Congo river in Africa, as well as parts of Lake Tanganyika.
A growing adult will need a tank of at least 180 gallons within a year or
two, and even a tank this large may not be enough in the long run. These
fish are very aggressive and tankmates must be chosen carefully. They are
often found in brackish waters.
These fish are highly carnivorous and should be fed a diet based around
meaty and live foods. Shellfish are a favorite.
Breeding and sexing information for T. mbu is unknown. |
