Dancing
Learn the counts by counting outloud or to yourself.
Get into it, but keep your moves sharp.
Record the song for the dance, so you can practice with the music.
Yelling
Don't sing your words, yell them.
Use a deep voice, not high and screeching.
Yell from your abdomen, not your throat. You will lose your voice if you yell with your throat. Bonus: Yelling from your abdomen can help your tummy muscles.
Expressions
SMILE! You must smile.
Make different faces. No, I don't mean stick your tounge out at them. Look surprised, happy, excited, or maybe even pouty. Change your faces.
Use your eyes to make your expressions. Make them wide and surprised or do the puppy dog, pouty, eye thing.
Dress Code
Put your hair in a ponytail. It should be out of your face.
No Jewelry! Don't wear jewelry. It is a cheerleading law.
Wear the right shoes. Don't wear chunky heels or boots. Wear some kind of tennis shoes.
Don't wear jeans or dresses. Go for clothes that let you move. Try a sports bra and some boxers or a close-fitting t-shirt.
In Front of the Judges
Be calm. Relax. Breathe in, breathe out. The judges aren't going to bite you.
Make eye contact and be friendly.
Remember, you are trying out, yell! Be happy, hyper, and cheery. You want to be a cheerleader, don't you???
GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU CHEERLEADERS TO BE!
