Lynyrd Skynyrd
This page is dedicated to all the members of the rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, a band that seems to be cursed with tragedy. In a plane crash all of the band was seriously injured, but unfortunatly there were casualties. Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and Skynyrd's assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick were all taken in the accident. Unfortunatly, these werent the only casualties that this group would face. In January 1986, Allen Collins became paralyzed from the chest down, do to drinking and driving. Allen flipped his new Thunderbird near Jacksonville, Florida, his home town. Also killed in the crash, was Collins' girlfriend and Collins later pled no contest to a d.u.i manslaughter charge. Around late 1989 Allen's condition began deteriorating. Allen was hospitalized when he caught a serious case of pneumonia. Ironically, the drugs used to fight his illness would later kill him by destroying his liver. Allen Collins would passed away on January 23, 1990. Allen Collins is credited for the long and flawless solo to freebird, historic and legendary song in Lynyrd Skynyrd folk lore. We at the Dark Memorial hope that all the lost members of the group rest in peace, and that they always remember, you are American by birth, Southern by grace of God. (A BIG thank you to ZEPP1412@aol.com for all the Allen Collins info)
