The final chapter has been closed on the Sailor Moon saga,
including the breathtaking artwork by Naoko Takeuchi ...
The Original Art Collection of Bishojo Senshi Sailor Moon,
Volume Infinity, released in August 1997 reflects this.
Unlike Takeuchi's other five
Original Art Collection volumes, Volume Infinity included
only five original art works by Naoko herself. Despite
this, the volume contains some remarkable artwork
presented to Naoko, by other famous manga/anime artists,
voice actors and actresses for the anime, friends and
family ... the list goes on. Included in this volume are
some never-before-seen scenes from the last chapter of
Sailor Moon.
The title, "Original Art Collection ... "
is deceiving The book is more of a memorial, than an
original art collection. The book itself contains some
artwork that is not available anywhere else.
The Original Art Collection,
Bishojo Senshi Sailormoon, Volume Infinity, is very hard
to get in Japan, and even more so in North America. The
book is not commercially available through ordinary shops.
It is essentially a doujishi (fanzine) produced by the
creator of Sailor Moon herself, as a tribute to Sailor
Moon and her many followers. There was a limited number
of copies published (somewhere in the 1000's - a very
small amount for publishing). The price of this volume is
slightly higher than the other five volumes - 2500 yen.
Unfortunately, it's already sold out.
Some of the content in this volume is not suitable
for all. Some pictures are -ahem- a little revealing.
Naoko has included a picture, created by her, of a
topless Usagi ... "It might be a bit extreme .. but
a nude is good! It's good 'cause it's so easy! How
QUICKLY the picture is completed! I'm impressed!!" [Naoko
Takeuchi].
Although Volume Infinity is NOT
available here in Canada, don't fret, loyal fans. Volume
Infinity can be viewed on the Internet in full colour and
soon-to-be fully translated at: http://whistler.cs.ucla.edu/~yasuyuki/www/genga/ by web master, Yasuyuki Sato.
Naoko comments on the final
installment of the Sailor Moon obsession "This is
the final, infinite, original art collection of Sailor
Moon, that I, Naoko, most wanted to make. To all the
people who cooperated on this book, and you, with my love,
I really thank you, and I appreciate it. 1997.6.30 Naoko
Takeuchi"
