Estudiantina Portuguesa

First the original text and then the translation by my friend Elena

The "Estudiantina Portuguesa" is a Portuguese folklore song, and i don´t know if some words would be well translated...As you know, folklore words have special meanings...but i´ll try it anyway...

Estudiantina Portuguesa
("estudiantina" is a folklore band formed by students from the University, that use to sing folklore songs through the streets for people to give them money They play Spanish lutes, guitars,tambourines... They´re typical in Spain and Portugal. And "portuguesa" means "Portuguese"... so it´s a song sang by a Portuguese estudiantina)

We are singers from the Portuguese land
("lusitana" means the same that "portuguese")
We bring songs from the sky and sea
We are filling the balconies and windows
with melodies from Ancient Portugal

Oporto (it´s referred to the town where is made the Port wine) irrigate red wine the hillside
From red flowers is covered the littoral
Green is the Tajo
(it´s a river born in Spain, that passes through portugal, and flow into the Atlantic Ocean, i think that it´s called Tagus in English), green are his both riversides
Both colours (referring to red and Green) from the National ensign (their flag)

Ay, Portugal Why do I love you so much?
Why, Why, everyone who see you is amazed
Ay Portugal, Why do I love you so much?
Why does everybody see you, ay, why?

Maybe it´s because your women are pretty
Maybe it´s because the wine cheers the heart
Maybe it´s because your pretty roses smell good
Maybe it´s because you´ll see the morning with the sun
