This page is for all of the people in EMS who have given their lives in the line of duty.

In 2000, 13 EMS personnel lost their lives in the line of duty.
Their names are listed at the bottom of the page

In 1999, 15 EMS personnel lost their lives in the line of duty

PLEASE SAY A PRAYER FOR THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF THESE GOOD PEOPLE

Since 1992, the National EMS Memorial Service has been annually honoring EMS providers who have given their lives in the line of duty...168 individuals have been honored so far. On May 27th, 2000, 27 new honorees will be added to the list.
The ceremony will take place at the Greene Memorial Church in Roanoke,VA. The families of the honorees will be presented with a medallion symbolizing eternal memory; a U.S. flag symbolizing service to their country; and a white rose symbolizing their undying love. Each honoree's name will be engraved on a bronze oak leaf and added to the Tree of Life memorial on exhibit at theTo The Rescue Museum in Roanoke.

Suellen "Sue" Barton of Clarke County Ambulance Service, Osceola, IA, who died in the line of duty from a CVA while at the scene of a motor vehicle crash on February 18th, 1999.

Gentry Randall "Randy" Blevins of Helton Township Ambulance Service, Lansing, NC, who died in the line of duty in a personal vehicle crash while responding to an EMS call on March 29th, 1999.

Hallie Elizabeth Burns of Iowa Methodist Medical Center Lifeflight,, Des Moines, IA, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on March 3rd, 1980.

Michael Wayne Carpenter of Hearne Ambulance Service, Stanton, KY, who died in the line of duty in an ambulance collision on December 2nd, 1994.

John F. Compton of P & B Ambulance, KY, who died in the line of duty of a heart attack while driving an ambulance on January 26th, 1994.

David R. Deary of Fry Fire Department, Sierra Vista, AZ, who died in the line of duty from a fall while involved in a mountain rescue on April 28th, 1979.

Donald Greene of University of Kentucky Hospital Air Medical Service,, Lexington, KY, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on June 14th, 1999.

Maureen Faye Griffin of Iowa Methodist Medical Center Lifeflight,, Des Moines, IA, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on March 3rd, 1980.

Brian Lewis Harden of Georgetown Scott Co EMS, Lexington, KY, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on June 14th, 1999.

Brenda G. HagE of Pine County Ambulance Service-Hinckley Substation, Pine City, MN, who died in the line of duty from being struck by a motor vehicle while at the scene of a motor vehicle crash on January 14th, 1999.

Carl E. Hensley of Piedmont Triad Ambulance and Rescue, Inc., High Point, NC, who died in the line of duty of a heart attack while participating in mountain rescue training on March 16th, 1991.

Ernest L. Jones Jr. of University of Kentucky Hospital Air Medical Service, Lexington, KY, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on June 14th, 1999.

Gregory A. May of Maryland State Police, Baltimore, MD, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on January 19th, 1986.

Thomas A. Noyle of Maryland State Police, Baltimore, MD, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on October 28th, 1972.

Laura Thomas Parada of Guardian Air Transport, Flagstaff, AZ, who died in the line of duty in a medical-transport plane crash on January 31st, 1996.

Karen Peebles of Guardian Air Transport, Flagstaff, AZ, who died in the line of duty in a medical-transport plane crash on January 31st, 1996.

Carey S. Poetzman of Maryland State Police, Baltimore, MD, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on January 19th, 1986.

Earl C. Reece of Eldora Ambulance Service, Eldora, IA, who died in the line of duty in an ambulance collision on February 11th, 1993.

Wayne Dale Rice of Dallas Rescue Squad, Dallas, NC, who died in the line of duty in a personal vehicle crash while returning from a state EMS exam on July 21st, 1991.

Stephen Gray Richey of Forsyth Rescue Squad, Winston-Salem, NC, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on September 25th, 1984.

Nick Roetnor of Iowa Methodist Medical Center Lifeflight,, Des Moines, IA, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on March 3rd, 1980.

Phillip L. Russ of Maryland State Police, Baltimore, MD, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on October 28th, 1972.

Steno J. Schipper of Allison Ambulance Service, Allison, IA, who died in the line of duty in a personal vehicle crash while responding to a motor vehicle crash on January 22nd, 1992.

Debora "Debbie" Lynne Brown Scott of Our Lady, the Lake College EMS Paramedic Program of Baton Rogue, LA, who died in the line of duty in an ambulance collision on November 14th, 1999.

Stephen J. Tulley of Guardian Air Transport, Flagstaff, AZ, who died in the line of duty in a medical-transport plane crash on January 31st, 1996.

John McClay Watson of Moscow Vol. Fire & Hose Company Ambulance, Moscow, PA, who died in the line of duty in a personal vehicle crash while responding to an EMS call on June 17th, 1997.

Sheila Marie Zellers of University of Kentucky Hospital Air Medical Service, Lexington, KY, who died in the line of duty in an EMS Helicopter crash on June 14th, 1999.

On December 14, 1997 at 22:45 in Littleton, CO, a Columbia AirLife helicopter was lifting off from an MVA and hit a power line. All those on board lost their lives.
