What Do I Need to Begin Reloading?

There are certain basic items that every reloader must have.

  1. Primary: Basic Reloading Data and Instructional Manual, e.g., Hornady, Speer, Lyman, or Sierra
  2. Secondary: Data Reference From a Propellant Manufacture, e.g., Accurate Arms, Hodgdon, Alliant (Hercules),
      Olin (Winchester), IMR, or VihtaVuori.
  3. Reloading Press: Single Stage
  4. Shell Holder for the caliber of case you will be reloading
  5. Case Neck Brush
  6. Case Lubricant for non carbide dies
  7. Case Lubricant Pad
  8. Priming Unit
  9. Reloading Die Set for the caliber of bullet
10. Primer Tray
11. Powder Scale (graduated in grains)
12. Powder Trickler
13. Powder Funnel
14. Two Loading Blocks for placing the cases in while reloading
15. Dial Indicating Caliper (graduated in 0.001” increments)
16. Case Trimmer with Pilot
17. Duburring Tool
18. Cartridge Headspace and Length Gauge
19. Chamber Headspace Gauge

RELOADING SAFETY

1. Follow reloading data and understand the process
2. Be fully alert
3. Keep reloading components, cartridges, and firearms out of the reach of children.
4. NO SMOKING, open flames or extreme heat sources near powder or primers
5. Examine the cases to be reloaded
6. Always wear protective eye ware
7. Handle primers carefully
8. Start with the lowest loads and work up to a maximum load
9. Never use unlabeled components
10. Never mix two different powders or use two powders in a case
11. Never repackage powder or primers
12. Do not eat food or drink liquids while reloading
13. Clean-up spilled powder with a broom or any other non sparking device
14. Make sure the firearm is in good condition, and designed for the specific reloaded cartridge.
15. Above all use common sense.
