HERCULES wants to try to negotiate with the monster. Jason agrees at first, but under the influence of BALIAN, the captain of the palace guard, Jason lays a trap and captures Galinthia. The monster is to be executed before the coronation for her crimes. Feeling that Jason deceived him about negotiating with Galinthia, Hercules frees the monster, after first extracting a promise from her that she will leave the kingdom of Corinth. But when Jason and Balian intervene, Galinthia breaks her promise and takes IOLAUS hostage, offering to trade his life for Jason's. Hercules and Jason must reconcile their differences to rescue Iolaus from the monster before Balian and the palace guards attack the monster's lair and escalate the violence. When Herc and Jason defeat the monster and send her into exile. Balian acknowledges Jason's courage, even if it is a different kind of courage than that of his father, King Aeson. Hercules, Iolaus, and Jason are reunited just in time for Jason's coronation. | |

As HERCULES is struggling against STRIFE -- who is showing off for his new, mopey sidekick, the seer FATUUS (sound like 'fatuous') -- a new cadet walks in that claims the gods don't exist. He's PYTHAGORAS, a confident, cerebral young man (think Mr. Spock) who believes that the Olympian gods are just superstition, or tricks con-men use to take advantage of simpler minds than his. While Herc, Iolaus, and Lilith all want to convince Pythagoras that gods do exist, Strife has a far more pressing concern: Fatuus foresees that one day mortals will cease believing in Olympian gods, and because of that the gods will cease to exist. Strife wants to nip this gods-doubting in the bud. Strife tries to convince Pythagoras, but nothing works. So out of desperation, Strife and Fatuus go to Zeus's closet and borrow a bag containing the frigid North winds. This will convince Pythagoras. When the bag is opened at the academy, ferocious cold winds are unleashed that could level the building Only when Hercules (might) and Pythagoras (mind) work together are they able to put the winds back in the bag. In the end, Pythagoras realizes that his unbending skepticism might be as wrong as other's blind belief or obsession, and he and Herc discover they may have more in common than they thought. | |

41. Adventures in the Forbidden Zone:

In the middle of a tough drill, a young man steps in and deftly handles HERCULES. It's THESEUS, self - proclaimed Spartan war hero. He says he heard about Cheiron's academy and thought he'd check it out. Now that he's seen it, he believes himself better suited to instruct than learn. Theseus shows Cheiron his credentials, and Cheiron agrees. IOLAUS, LILITH, and all the other cadets except Hercules quickly fall under the guy's spell. Theseus notices Herc resistance and pushes him hard. Finally push comes to angry shove, and Theseus challenges Herc to a chariot race (an ancient drag race). Herc accepts. But when the two fierce competitors keep driving into a 'forbidden area,' they're attacked by a man-eating ogre. In a real fight, Theseus suddenly panics, and both he and Herc are captured and caged, soon to be the ogre's next meal. Theseus admits he's a fraud. He's no war hero, but a deserter who, though skilled, didn't have the courage for real combat. His confidence is all show. Herc gives Theseus a pep talk, and they outsmart and defeat the ogre. When they return to the academy, and Theseus confesses his deception to Cheiron, they discover Cheiron had known about Theseus' lie for a while but felt the young man would learn more by earning the consequences of his lie than from any lecture Cheiron could give. | |

42. The Prize:

Ares is anxious to collect the five pieces of the awesomely powerful CRONOS STONE that Zeus shattered and threw to the ends of existence after Zeus used it to defeat the Titans eons ago. Ares has acquired two and believes he's found the third: unsuspectingly donated by as a prize in a talent contest at Kora's Inn. But Ares can't just take' the piece; in order for it to amplify a God's power, the god must receive each piece 'freely from the hands of a mortal'. Ares is forced to mingle with mortals and enter the talent contest in order to win the piece. When HERCULES realizes that Ares has arrived (as well as STRIFE and DISCORD, Who want the piece safe. That means Hercules has to enter the talent contest and 'beat' Ares (who's a really good singer). Ares finally blows his cool when he doesn't get the piece; he starts blasting apart Kora's Inn. But Hercules surprises everyone (including himself) when the piece amplifies his own half-god powers. Hercules square off, but Hercules realizes that, to keep the piece from ever falling into Ares's hands, Hercules has to give it up himself. That means hurling the piece all the way to the ocean... and then cleaning up Kora's Inn. | |

As the five cadets struggle to find a way to get themselves to safety while the fast-burrowing sandworm circles, like the shark in 'Jaws,' waiting to strike Marco is lost. They discover that she has been brainwashed by Ares into believing that Cheiron is training the cadets to attack and destroy the Amazons. Further complicating the crisis, Herc's old friend, the gentle god of the forge, HEPHAESTUS, is revealed to be the one supplying the rockets to Cyane (not knowing they're being used as weapons). Worse, it is revealed that Heph and Cyane are in love. Now Hercules has to find a way to diffuse the situation without hurting Cyane, and without angering the powerful Hephaestus -- or breaking his heart. | |

When Apollo realizes that one of the guys is his half-brother Hercules, he changes histune. He asks Herc to stay and enjoy the godly life with him for a while. Herc says he has to get back. The academy is like a home to him, the cadets are like family. This rejection infuriates Apollo, who surfs up to the sun to double the temperature on the beach. The cadets and Nymphs barely survive the onslaught, and Herc and the cadets quickly leave. Apollo, still angry, goes and attacks the academy. When Herc and the guys get there, there he is bringing them trouble again!). Cheiron is hurt, but Herc valiantly fights Apollo. Herc reminds Apollo that though he may be a god, he has no one to really call family, and nowhere to really call home. | |

Hercules, Iolaus, and Theseus, out on a hunting/fishing/camping trip, find themselves, as darkness falls, in a mysterious valley, which was recommended to them by a crotchety old man. What they don't know is that this is a valley sacred to HERA and home to her Predator - like monster (THE PROTECTOR), who is the valley's guardian. At night, around their campfire, they are attacked. Things look grim until they manage to get to safety in a small cave. There they find the same man who sent them to this valley! Fighting an urge to feed the old guy to the monster, they instead find themselves risking their lives to save the man who sent them into this death trap. They survive the night and make it out of the valley. What Hercules doesn't know is that the old man was his father, Zeus -- who had set up this challenge for a son who had begun to doubt himself. | |
