AMERICAN CENTER FOR LAW AND JUSTICE

The American Center For Law and Justice(ACLJ) is a not-for-profit public interest law firm and educational organization dedicated to defending the rights of believers. As a not-for-profit organization that does not charge for its legal services, the ACLJ is dependent upon God and the resources He provides through the time, talent, and gifts of people who share our concerns over the erosion of our religious and civil liberties.

Christian Rights in the Workplace!

CaseNotes

Fighting The Prayer Police...

"The Lord has opened a door for the ACLJ to lead the fight in the most important school prayer case in years! Now, you and I must protect our children..."

This is typical of the strategy used by the ACLU and others. In this case, they found one assistant principal in one school in Alabama who complained about "too much prayer in school." The ACLU and Americans United(for Separation of Church and State) put their vast financial resources behind the case and found a friendly court willing to squelch religious freedom. Now, they hope to create a precedent they can take across the nation that will strip our children of rights guaranteed by the United States Constitution.

Postal Censorship...

"Imagine what our founding fathers would say about the federal government monitoring, halting and censoring mail because of its religious content. After all, the First Amendment expressly states that "Congress shall make no law...prohibiting the free exercise" of religion. Now, two centuries later, officials at the U.S. Postal Service are sitting as arbiters of religious practice!"

Our suit charges that the Postal Service has violated First Amendment rights of free speech and free exercise of religion, in addition to Fifth Amendment due process and equal protection rights. We are seeking a ruling that will declare the Postal Service's selective monitoring and censoring of ministry mail unconstitutional.

Offensive Christmas Carols?...

"No court has ever banned the singing of religious Christmas carols by a public school choir."

According to the ACLU, the resurrection account in the New Testament is too "controversial" to be included in a high school curriculum on the Bible. As if that's not enough, imagine, for a moment, what Christmas would be like without Christmas carols celebrating the birth of Christ. Well, that's exactly what a high school principal in New Mexico wants. She believes singing Christmas carols in a school choral program is offensive, insensitive and unbalanced.

Fired for Protecting Children?...

"After Larry's protest, the supervisor who had been distributing the brochure, and others, immediately began a campaign of harassment and intimidation directed at Larry and his religious beliefs. The supervisor and his cohorts verbally abused and physically intimidated Mr. Phillips. This particular supervisor would sometimes come to the office attired in a leather vest and pants, adorned with chains of various lengths, wearing a dog collar. He would walk back and forth near Phillips' desk smacking a small baseball bat into his hands and saying things like, "I guess some people have never heard the word (expletive deleted).""

It seems that the Division of Family Services now deems attempting to protect children from being placed in openly homosexual households as ineffective job performance! Yet, the supervisor in question had once appeared at a city council meeting at which he smashed vials of blood, smeared the blood on the doors of the council chamber, and claimed that it was his own AIDS-tainted blood. All of this was done without any disciplinary measures by the Division of Family Services.

This case is critical for three reasons. First, we must actively defend the rights of believers to express their Christian beliefs in the workplace free of harassment and ridicule. Second, it is important to expose anti-family activists who are using government agencies to advance their own purposes. Finally, this case serves to highlight the tragic plight of children who are too often used as pawns by activists whose main goal seems to be redefining the family in an attempt to advance their own misguided social agendas.

They prayed for...

"our country and for our country's leaders. It was this quiet prayer which resulted in actual threats of arrest from the United States Park Police. Within the Capitol Building is a chapel with a beautiful stained glass picture of General George Washington kneeling in prayer at Valley Forge. Ironically, President Washington's actions at Valley Forge are now deemed illegal in our nation's Capitol."

Victory Reports!

ACLJ Triumphs as Hawaii and Alaska Voters Overwhelmingly Reject Homosexual Marriage in Tremendous Landslide Victory

"This is a victory of biblical proportions. It is a huge defeat for homosexual marriage."

"God delivered a major victory for the institutions of marriage and the family on election day when voters in both Hawaii and Alaska approved constitutional amendments to ban homosexual marriage by an astonishing 2 to 1 margin. More than 70 percent of the voters in Hawaii approved a state constitutional amendment clearing the way for the state legislature to implement existing law that only recognizes unions between a man and a woman. At the same time, by a margin of 2 to 1, Alaskans voted a homosexual marriage ban into the state constitution."

What Rights Do Students Possess in the Public Schools? The purpose of this booklet is to set forth the rights of students, in particular, Christian students in their public schools. We have been answering these questions for the past several years. Over that time, certain questions kept coming up. It became obvious to us at the American Center for Law and Justice that there was a lot of confusion over the rights of Christian students in the public school arena.

Taking the Gospel to the Streets In this pamphlet, we show how the Constitution guarantees your right to preach the Gospel in public places. For over sixty years, the Supreme Court has examined cases involving preaching (or other speech activities) on the streets. These cases provide ready answers to those who challenge your right to take the Gospel to the streets.
