My Wonderful Husband and His Beautiful Wife

My brother-in-law sent me this photo in an email. Thanks, Chip! From left to right, the people are Chip (John's brother), Emily (John's sister), Me, John, and Chuck (John's father). This photo was taken right after our wedding in May of 1995.

John and I were married on May 20, 1995. We were engaged for 8 months and had been dating for only 4 months before that.

I met John Lockyear way back in May of 1990 when I was Amy Holland and only 15 years old. I was in the 10th grade, and he was in the 9th grade. We met at my first band practice after moving to Ballwin, Missouri (a suburb of Saint Louis) with my parents. John played the drums and I was a French Horn player. It was my first day in a HUGE school. I was really nervous that day. I was in the band director's office telling him about my experience at my old school and in walks this really tall, really skinny, really HOT guy. I learned his name later, and I had a major crush on him that whole year. He tells me now that he had a little thing for me too, but I don't believe him. We were just casual friends in high school. We never dated until after I graduated. It took me four years to hook him, but I got him. *smile*

John and I spent our first year and a half of marriage in a VERY small apartment in Saint Louis. John and I both got the itch to move and try out a new place. I never liked Saint Louis, and John had never lived anywhere else. So...it was decided that we would move. John and I thought long and hard (for about 10 minutes) and decided that we wanted to live in Colorado near the mountains. We packed up all of our stuff, our furniture, our cats, and our bodies and moved to Denver, CO in March of 1997. We have loved every day of our lives in Colorado (well, maybe not every day, but most of them). We both love the mountains and wonderful lack of humidity at 5,000+ feet above sea level. We were lucky enough to get a much larger apartment with a beautiful view of the foothills. We both decided from the first moment we got here that we would never move.

Well, you know what happens whenever you say "never." Your husband runs off and joins the Marine Corps is what happens. Hee hee. You've gotta be careful with that "never" stuff. At any rate, John has always wanted to either be a Policeman or a Soldier. In the end - actually, it was in November of 1998 - John found that magic that he was looking for with the Marine Corps. He originally signed into the Delayed Entry program for the Reserves, but changed his mind and switched to active duty the week after Christmas 1998. John said that he figured if he was going to do this, that he should do it all the way. So...my baby left me on January 12, 1999, and that's our life history to date.

John is my best friend. We do everything together, even stuff like grocery shopping and car maintenance (John's other passion). We've never been separated by more than a couple of feet since the day we got together (which, incidentally, was May 9, 1994). We've even worked for the same companies at the same time just so that we could be together all day. Most of our friends find this pathetic and a little too gushy. But we like it. It's really weird not having him around, now, but I know that the moment I see him wearing that uniform, all of my doubts will be erased. The best part about the uniform is this: he puts it on, I get to take it off. Hee hee. I know, I know, this is supposed to be a family site, but I couldn't resist.

Anyway, that's a little about us.

Semper Fidelis!!

OUR CHILDREN

These are our beautiful cats. They are a constant source of affection, laughter, comfort, love, and sheer, eyeball popping, hair-pulling frustration.
