WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE WE DOING HERE?

In the beginning…. No, wait, that won’t work. It’s been used.
From here to the very edge of infinity… Mmmm. There is no edge of infinity.
Now to the end of eternity. Harrumph! Eternity can have no end – or any beginning!

So, how can one describe something that is eternal and infinite? I don’t believe it is possible. I’m not trying to describe my faith, which is very finite and is most often far too small. But, regardless of its size, my faith does have an object. That object had no beginning and will have no end. It has no boundaries of any kind. It is, in this human experience, often referred to as God – or some derivative of that name. I prefer to call it the Creator. I will refer to our Creator at times as Source or Energy or some combination of those names.
I tend to shy away from the term ‘God’ because of the varied connotations of the word. ‘God’ holds visions of anger and subjugation; reward and punishment. While many cultures paint a benevolent picture of God, others hold him in feared reverence in hopes they will not see divine retribution. However, the Creator is neither angry nor benevolent. The Creator has no desire to be feared. It will not mete out divine punishment because it has no divinity – only creativity. Our Source has one purpose… one desire… one plan: To Create. Nothing more and, certainly, nothing less.
It is an endless existence of creative energy. There is nothing which we see, nothing which we do not see, nothing that has ever been or that ever will be that has not had or will not have it’s conception in the Creator. There is nothing in existence which is not held together by this Creative Energy. And, unlike the more common notions of God, nothing that has been or that will be created stands outside of its Creator. Nothing in all of creation stands alone. Nothing exists on its own. All of the universe we know and all of the universes we cannot know exist because of this energy. They are sustained by the Creator. They are infused with the creator. They cannot be separated from their energy source… if they were to separate they would cease to exist. That includes each one of us.
While it is true that most of us (myself chiefly included) do not recognize our Source often enough and do not participate or cooperate with it as much as we could, we still stand within its eternity. We live within the Creator’s infinity. We exist because we are connected to its energy. We were born because it created. We live because it creatively sustains. We exist only because of our Source and we fully share in its infinite eternity.
So, that leads us to the question:

Where did we come from?

The most basic answer is that we did not come from anywhere. We always were. Obviously that is not true if we are talking merely about these human forms in which we exist today. But these human forms are not all of who we are. They are not the essence of our being. Our being is now, as it has always been, a part of that Creative Energy. That is where we ‘come from’ and that is where we are going.
It is difficult to use words to describe what I mean here because, by nature, words create boundaries. Just as the word ‘black’ sets boundaries for that color – black ends when dark gray begins – so all words create their own limitations. And, even though different individuals define some of those boundaries differently, each word still sets limits. Trying to describe anything that is limitless using words that create limits is difficult at best and probably beyond the skill of this writer.
I don’t use the phrase ‘come from’ to mean that we now stand apart from the Creator. We do not – we could not. We all come ‘from’ (but not ‘away from’) our Creator. Its energy flows within us, through us and it surrounds us. Even the physical creation that now limits our abilities is infused with the Creator. All of the energy which has coalesced into the people we know as you and I are part of the Creator.
Imagine, if you will, that you are scuba diving in some vast ocean. You brought a small eyedropper and you use that to capture a part of the ocean. Now you have encapsulated a tiny bit of that which surrounds you. The ocean in the eyedropper is no different in composition than its source. The only difference is that it resides for now in that eyedropper and so doesn’t have the ability to surge with the ebb and flow of the ocean currents. Rather, it creates its own currents within the tube.
Again, due to the nature of words, ‘part of’ requires more explanation. I am not saying that this person called ‘Neil’ is a part of the creative source in the way that a Senator is part of a legislative body. I did not cast a vote to create. We did not debate the issues or have to decide between two or three choices of what to create. We, as an individuals, do not form a voting block within the creative body. And that is true whether you are talking about the physical, emotional, mental or spiritual sides of our being or the whole being. And yet, all that exists is part of the Creator.>br>      The energy that is you… that keeps your heart beating and your blood flowing and your brain active… the energy that determined your DNA and lifespan… was, is and will forever be part of the Creator. You and I are the Creator.
Now, before we get big-headed and egotistical, I am not saying that we can do a Bewitched nose-tweak and bring into existence something that is not. (Perhaps if we could perfect the Jeanie blink… I’m kidding, of course.) We are now in the eyedropper. Our ability to follow the ocean current is limited for a time. But that does not take away our true identity. Just as the fluid in the eyedropper is truly the ocean, so we are truly composed of Creative Energy.
But I don’t want to give you the impression that your beating heart, your physical body, your mental capabilities, your emotions or even your spirit are separate, stand alone creations used to give you form and personality and limitations. They are not. Truly they are creations, and so do create form, personality and limitations, but even those elements are created within and remain a part of the Creator. They are all part of the molecules in the eyedropper.

But, where the analogy breaks down is that the eyedropper is not a part of the ocean (it stands separate from even while surrounded by the ocean.) However, our personal eyedropper – our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual dimensions (as well as all of creation, which makes up everything we see), still remain part of the Creator.
Since we have at least a simple understanding of where we came from (and I completely include myself in the words ‘we’ and ‘simple’), we are led to another question:

Where are we going?

When our eyedropper is finally squeezed, the energy of who we are (mental, emotional and spiritual) simply flows back to our source Creator while our body returns its energy to the creation. We no longer have to live in fear of hell nor do we have a need for the hope of heaven. No angelic choirs, no streets of gold, no fire and brimstone… just the joy and exuberance of eternal creativity. The Source, which is who we are, creates us within its own energy, sustains us while we are in our physical manifestations and welcomes us back into itself when we die. If and when this physical universe ceases to exist, all of that energy will also flow back to the Creator.
Again, I use ‘back to the Creator’ not to denote reunification after a separation, but, rather, to identify a direction. We were not, are not and never will be separate from our Creator’s energy. As the ocean in the eyedropper is welcomed back to the sea despite having never left it, so we will be welcomed back to the complete harmony of eternal, infinite creative energy. And, our energy will undoubtedly become parts of other eyedroppers from time to time.
No, I’m not talking about reincarnation. Reincarnation assumes that the entity of who we now are remains intact and, at death, crosses back into some spiritual or astral plane to await another progressive reincarnation. Where and how that spirit will physically exist depends on how well that spirit did on its last round in the physical realm. Karma. Our Creator does not know, and is not dependent on karma. It simply creates. That’s what it does.
And within the act of creating, a small bit of what is now our present energy will be utilized in a new creation. Another small bit will be mixed into another creation and so on and so forth.
Let’s revisit our ocean one more time. Before you fill the eyedropper, you could not have determined which molecules would be sucked in. And, if you squeeze the ocean out of the eyedropper and refill it, you will not have the same molecules as you did the first time. You’ll have a tube full of ocean just as you did before… but it won’t be the same ocean. The currents inside the eyedropper will be similar to the previous currents, but not identical. And, when you empty the eyedropper back into the ocean, you will not be able to identify which molecules were in the tube and which were not. But, whether inside the glass or outside, the ocean remains constant. That ocean we’ve been visiting is a picture of the Creator. Not a perfect picture, but enough to give us an idea of our source Creator.
We will attempt to look at our Creator a little later – while it does not have a physical entity to describe, it does have logically observable attributes that most certainly affect each of us on a day-to-day basis. Of course, they should have an affect… the attributes of our Creator – our Source – should be our own because the energy of which we are composed is identical to the Energy that composed us.
Now that we are beginning to understand where we came from and where we are going, we are left with still another question:

What is the point?
That is what I will attempt to tackle in the next week or two. As always, if you have some questions or some comments feel free to send an email. I look forward to hearing from you.
