INDO-PAK BORDER:

Four Indian states, namely Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Gujarat lie on India’s border with Pakistan. While terrorism in Punjab has been brought under control, violence continues to be promoted in Kashmir from across the border. India has started fencing large sections of its border with Pakistan which are vulnerable or are used frequently by infiltrators and terrorists.

The total length of India’s border with Pakistan is 3310 kms.

Four Indian states share the border with Pakistan as follows:

Punjab 547 kms (of which 152 kms are riverine border)
Rajasthan 1035 kms.
Gujarat 512 kms.
Jammu & Kashmir 1216 kms (of which 8 kms are riverine.)
[The Line of Actual Control in this state is 790 kms long].

INDO-TIBETAN BORDER:

India’s border with China (the Tibet autonomous region) extends to 3440 kms, the Indian frontier states being Ladakh (in Jammu and Kashmir), Himachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. They share the border with China as follows:

Jammu & Kashmir 1570 kms
Himachal Pradesh 200 kms
Uttar Pradesh 345 kms
Sikkim 200 kms
Arunachal Pradesh 1125 kms

Approximately 38,000 sq kms of Indian territory are under occupation by China in Jammu & Kashmir, according to the Indian External Affairs Ministry. In addition, under the so-called Sino-Pakistan "boundary agreement" of 1963, Pakistan has illegally ceded approximately 5120 sq kms of Indian territory in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir to China.

INDO-MYANMAR (BURMA) BORDER:

Four Indian states, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland, share the 1643 km long Indo-Burmese border as follows:

Arunachal Pradesh 520 kms
Manipur 398 kms
Mizoram 510 kms
Nagaland 215 kms

Border trade between India and Myanmar was opened officially from 12 Apr 95. Initially the trade will be conducted through Moreh in Manipur.

INDO-BHUTAN BORDER:

The 643 km long Indian border with Bhutan, runs along four Indian states as follows:

Sikkim 33 kms
West Bengal 175 kms
Assam 265 kms
Arunachal Pradesh 170 kms

INDO-NEPAL BORDER:

The Indian frontier states on the 1747 km long Indo-Nepal border and the lengths of the border shared by them are as follows:

Uttar Pradesh 845 kms
Bihar 725 kms
West Bengal 92 kms
Sikkim 85 kms

The Indo-Nepali Treaty provides free movement of Nepali citizens in any part of India, other than the protected/restricted areas. The Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950 do not apply to Nepali nationals entering India by land or air from Nepal.

INDO-BANGLA BORDER:

India’s border with Bangladesh is 4096.70 kms long. Five Indian states lie on this border: West Bengal, Assam, Meghalya, Tripura and Mizoram. They share the border with Bangladesh as follows:

West Bengal Land Border: 1181.70 kms. Riverine Border: 335 kms. Total: 2216.70 kms.
Assam Land border: 160 kms. Riverine: 103 kms. Total 263 kms.
Meghalaya 443 kms.
Tripura Land Border: 773 kms. Riverine: 83 kms. Total: 856 kms.
Mizoram Land Border: 58 kms. Riverine: 260 kms. Total: 318 kms.
