Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
The Zelda series is a legacy few games got even the chance to achieve. The only series with as many games as Zelda’s eight was the Final Fantasy series. And there is a reason for that. Feel yourself in an immersive 3-d realm, where the sights and sounds rival that of a band of virtuosos, and master painters.

The gameplay is everything I wanted to see, and even more. It has been hard to coordinate views in 3-d games, but Zelda overcame this barrier. The Z button is used to go behind Link, or in buildings you can push C-Up to use an overhead version. The puzzles are pretty good, borrowing from other (Zelda) games, and putting in new puzzles as well. Another challenge is to find 100 gold skulltulas, another thing to do after you beat the game. And there is always the challenge of not dying throughout the game. Riding the horse is also a truly awesome experience.

The sound is what you would expect from Miyamoto and the rest of the Zelda team, but getting rid of the greatest theme of all-time video game history was a mistake. I even own the Zelda SoundTrack, and just like the puzzles, there are old, familiar tunes and new ones too, just as catchy. The concept of being able to actually play the Ocarina is a plus. You can even modulate the pitch like a real Ocarina by using the control stick.

The graphics are Nintendo at it’s very best. Enough said.

Zelda gets a definite five because it is definitely the best game I have ever played. Even some of my PSX friends (yeah you VMankind) admit it to be a great game. The graphics and sound are completely real, and the whole storyline and concept kicks. If you get one game this year get Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
