Clement C. Guillaume was born October 30, 1831 in the Village of Diesse, Canton of Berne, in the Republic of Switzerland. He came to America at the age 18 with his parents and settled in White Lake, New York. He was a shoemake by trade and worked in Booneville, New York for several years. In 1856 he went west to La Crosse, Wisconsin where he married Philomene G. Labelle. Philomene was born August 13, 1838 in Canada. In 1863 he and his family moved to Elk Point, Union, South Dakota where they lived until their deaths. Philomene died in 1889. Clement died January 3, 1911.
