Thomas Jahde is the son of Hans Jahde and Marie Thiessen.   Thomas was born March 4, 1848 in Schuby, Schleswig, Germany.  He was the son of Hans Jaehde and Marie Thiessen.  According to his obituary, he served with the German army in 1870-1 in the war with France.  He was severely wounded in the battle of Gravelotte, where thousands of French and German soldiers were killed.  He was a member of Company 10, 48th Regt. German Infantry.  He came to the United States in 1873 locating in Davenport, Iowa.  In 1880 he re-located to Crawford County Iowa, marrying Bertha Elizabeth Funderman October 21, 1880 in Otter Creek, Crawford, Iowa.  Bertha Elizabeth Funderman was born about 1860 in Scott County Iowa.
