LUDWIG
JOHANNES LEHFELDT
AND
ALICE JANE COXON
Ludwig Johannes LEHFELDT was the sixth child of
Heinrich Wilhelm Lehfeldt and his wife Anna Silbertoff. He was born on the 26th September 1871 at
Quarsnstedt, Schleswig-Holstein, Preussen.
Because it was conpulserary for Men to join the German Army when they
turned 18, Heinrich shipped his sons of
to Australia to avoid Conscription.
Ludwig and his younger brother Wilhelm, sailed from Gravensend aboard
the ship “Jumna” on the 31 May 1888
arriving in Brisbane on the 23rd of June of that year.
Ludwig
and Heinrich worked their way up to Kabra in Central Queensland. One of the many projects Ludwig worked on
was the building of the much need Railway line between Kabra and Mount Morgan
and the building of the Number 2 Dam, to supply water for the Mount Morgan
Township and the near by Mine.
Ludwig
meet a Local Nurse Alice Jane COXON and on the 10 September 1900, at the Saint
Mary’s Church of England, Mount Morgan, Ludwig and Alice was married. Alice was born on the 29 December 1876, at
Horsehay, Salop, England to William Coxon and Margaret Groves.
Ludwig
brough land at Woodend, latter to be
called Kalapa, and set about making a home for his new Bride, while Alice
remained in Mount Morgan working at a local Doctors Surgery. He was to call his new home “Quarnlea”
.
Ludwig
and Alice had five children, all born in Rockhampton.
Ludwig
and Alice sold their farm and moved back to Mount Morgan, where they both died
and were buried, Ludwig on the 10 Jan 1946 and Alice on the 10 Sep 1959.
