Excelsior-class Starship
Dubbed "the great Experiment," the first Excelsior-class vessel was launched in 2285 as a testbed for the unsuccessful transwarp drive development project. The ship, later reffitted with a standard warp drive, became the prototype for the numerous Excelsior-class starships built over the next decades. These ships included the:
