INZAGHI HAT-TRICK
LA CORUNA - Four win out of four matches,
eleven goals score, and one let in. Milan positive series continues also at the
'Riazor', where the Rossoneri already grasped a success on December 6, 2000
through a goal from Helveg. But if at that time they had to suffer before
getting the three points, this evening the victory is the logical consequence of
a great performance which mirrors the convincing start of the season and recalls
the Milan of the Invincibles.
Pippo Inzaghi hat-trick after Seedorf opener gave Milan a stunning 4-0 success
against Deportivo La Coruna and put them in a very commanding position in their
Champions League Group G.
After weathering an early storming from the hosts, who started the game
brightly, Carlo Ancelotti's side took the control of the game and on their first
chance they also broke the deadlock through Seedorf. Released by Rui Costa who
worked the ball in from the right flank, the Hollander cut inside and drove the
ball into the bottom corner of Juanmi García's net to repeat what he did against
Perugia.
As it often happens in such important matches, the opener influences the rest of
the game. Deportivo's response didn't trouble Dida, but gave more confidence to
the Rossoneri who, buoyed by the lead, pressed non-stop until they doubled.
Roberto Acuña's failed to clear a Rui Costa's cross in the danger box and Pippo
Inzaghi was alert enough to slot the ball home. And if his first effort was hit
straight at the keeper, he made no mistake with his follow up.
This second goal allowed Milan to take the control of the proceedings and play
with tranquillity, although Dida denied Deportivo just before the break with a
double save.
After the restart the match became also more exciting, with Inzaghi closing the
match. It was again Rui Costa who picked out the Italian International striker
on the edge of the box to drive home; and always from the Portuguese's feet also
the assist for the fourth goal came with Superpippo completing his hat-trick.
With this goal, his 40th in European competitions, the Rossonero forward can
beat Alessandro Altobelli's Italian goalscoring record
