And then the gods said let there boredom...and behold,
there was boredom...plenty of it.
The trip to Utah was less than exciting, so I'll keep the
description to a minimum. It took us 9 hours to get there,
driving through the Vast Nothingness (aka Wyoming) and
we were all traveling on no more than 5 hours of sleep.
With all that said and done, we made it to Utah about 4
hours before the show at Bricks was to take place. The
fun part about this is, we ran into every possible problem
there was to be had. They were completely remodelling the
highway and took out a HUGE chunk. Fortunately, we exited
at the right time. However, we ended up on streets unknown
to us that were also, much to our chagrin, under massive
construction.
Problem #2, enter stage left. Being the smart
people we are, we never thought to reserve a hotel room
for the night that we would be spending in Salt Lake. Of
course, knowing our luck, there were several conventions
in town. About 75 minutes of searching ensued with no dice
except for a hotel room about 6 miles from the venue.
That left us with...an hour and a half before the show
started.
We took off quickly and got to the venue, only
to find out that the parking spaces were filled. Joy. So
my sister and I got out and stood in line, waiting for my
two friends to park the car and join us. And they did about
15 minutes later. By this time, were were freaking out,
worried that we wouldn't get a chance to talk to Paige
about our passes. Oh the torture.
Quite a while passed, and Paige had walked past
my friend Nathan and I. We'd asked several people to go talk to
Paige and we had gotten no response until I asked on roadie
person in particular. We had already gotten two passes by this time
and I explained the situation, being that we had 2 more people
with us and she said:
"What's your name?"
I responded with "Deb...but he won't know that. Just
tell him that 'Butterfly Girl' is waiting for him." And with that,
she took off. About 15 minutes later, she peered around the corner
and motioned for me to come back. I wandered on back behind the
semi truck to the backstage area and sure enough, Paige was
standing there. I smiled and greeted him with a hug, he did likewise.
I also explained to him that we needed 2 more passes and he
obliged quite happily, apologizing for being late 'cause he had
family there with him. (Michelle's side) I made damn sure to
tell him how sweet he was for doing this and we continued to
embrace for a few before he told me that he had to get going.
(so did we, the line was now moving) So we parted ways...
Fortunately, the will call tickets I had reserved
had gone through and we were in, sporting our nifty blue stickers
for the second night. Much to our chagrin, the floor in front
of the stage was jam packed, so we decided to sit on a box of
Orgy's equipment, beside the "sound guy". Luckily, when we stood
on top of the box, it was the best view in the house. haha.
Orgy rocked, of course. And being that it was the
very last official show of the tour, everyone (VD too) came out
onto the stage during Blue Monday/You Spin Me. It was great.
After the concert, we had to mill around since no one would tell
us where/when the afterparty was being held.
More luck..I got to meet Paige's cousin, who, in turn
brought Paige out, who dragged my sister and I back to the bus.
We went downstairs to the place where they had all their drinks
and catering (it was rotten..damn the luck.) and eventually, we
all got kicked out because none of us (the whole 15 fans that were
there) were 21 and the venue would lose it's liquor license.
We all went back out to the bus and took refuge on some lawn
chairs that were stacked back there. We talked for quite a while with
random members of Orgy and Videodrone before I finally settled
down. A circle of girls gathered around Paige (of course) and I
was one of them, making sure that I got a seat right next to
him. Nathan, Sharon and Glen came and went, opting to talk to
either Ryan, Mavis or Bobby rather than listen to Paige ramble on
about various members of his band (who shall remain nameless)
being "Label Whores". Paige was hilarious, though I think that
most of the people in our little circle of 6 were laughing at
what he said just to be cute.
Ryan came on over fairly quickly, noting that he wanted
to join the "party" that Paige had goin' on in the corner. Of course,
Paige kept people filled with beer, disappearing and reappearing
with at least 25 bottles of Budweiser periodically. He also
bummed some cigs off of me and we continued to chat.
Bobby and his twin brother joined our party as well.
Bobby, having made up for his previous inconsiderate actions, was
welcome. His brother, Fabio, was pretty sweet. I was amazed how
much they looked alike. (yes, I know they're twins, but hey)
Pretty soon, the conversation was broken due to
Ryan getting more than a little drunk. He had decided that it would
be cute to build sculptures out of lawn chairs in the middle of
the path that the roadies were using to pack away all the equipment.
After the sculpture incident, that had been crashed by Bobby,
Ryan simply took one chair and sat smack in the middle of the
path. Bobby kicked the chair and got Ryan to get out of the way
so that the roadies could finish their work.
Many pictures, hugs, thank you's, kisses and hours
later (about 4 hours to be exact), Orgy had to get going to
Oregon to play a festival. Reluctantly, we parted ways with them,
but not before my friend had Ryan sign "505" on the back of his
shirt and Paige autograph a beer bottle.
Needless to say, we didn't get much sleep. It was all
good, however...I can't thank Orgy enough for the memories.
