The common heritage of Native American Students, the mutual problems of Native American students, the concerns which stem from these problems, and the common concerns about the quality of life of Native American students encourage the establishment of a student association of Native Americans at Tulsa Community College.
NAME
SECTION 1- The name of this organization shall be Native American Student Association of Tulsa Community College: will also be known as NASA of TCC. NOTICE: for the remainder of this document, The organization before mentioned, may be referenced as: The Native American Student Association; NASA; or NASA of TCC. In addition, Tulsa Community College may be referenced to as TCC.
PURPOSE
SECTION 1 The purpose of this organization is to enlighten the public in regard to the work of this Organization and to promote a better understanding of the Indian people and the students of the school.
SECTION 2
The objectives of this alliance are:(A) To promote and assume leadership for Indian students in this organization
(B) To promote scholastic and social development for Indian and non- Indian students.
(C) To promote the exchange of ideas and traditions among the members and the community.
(D) To provide an organization through which the activities of the group may become known to other organizations and individuals.
(E) To encourage others to become interested in those objectives.
MEMBERSHIP
SECTION 1 - Membership is open to all students attending Tulsa Community College, and employees. Students must be currently enrolled in at lest 3 hours.
SECTION 2 - Honorary members will be elected by members based on outstanding contributions to the club.
SECTION 3- HAZING -This organization does not conduct hazing activities. Hazing activities are defined as, Any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off campus premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, harassment, embarrassment or ridicule. Any hazing activity described in the new section of law to be codified in the Oklahoma statutes as Section 1190 of title 21, is prohibited, in all manners explained in the statute, for NASA and/or any person representing or participating in a NASA activity, event or meeting.
SECTION 4- it is the position of NASA to practice non-discrimination in membership. It is against the policy of TCC to discriminate against, or exclude from participation in benefits or activities either on the staff or in the student body, any person on the grounds of race, color, religion, age, sex, disability, national origin, or status as a veteran.
GOVERNING BODY
SECTION 1 The government of this organization shall be vested in the Executive Committee consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Reporter, Parliamentarian, Student Association Representative, and Alternate, and a minimum of one On-campus advisor.
SECTION 2 All officers, excluding the advisor, shall be elected by the members, from the membership roll, for the term of one year.
SECTION 3- Vacancies shall be filled for the remaining term by majority vote of the members.
DUTIES
SECTION 1- The president shall preside over all meetings of the Executive Committee and the general membership, delegate duties and responsibilities, and shall perform all other duties incident to his/her office.
SECTION 2- The Vice President shall perform the duties of the President in his/her absence and all other duties designated by the President.
SECTION 3 - The Secretary shall correctly record the proceedings of all meetings and shall have custody of all records and papers.
SECTION 4 - The Treasurer shall receive and disburse all monies, keeping an accurate record thereof, and attend to all duties pertaining to Native American Student Association funds.
SECTION 5 - The student Association Representative shall properly represent the members of this organization and shall be required to attend all Student Association meetings and to report at each regular meeting of the Native American Student Association.
SECTION 6 The Reporter shall promote the organization through all available media.
SECTION 7 The Parliamentarian shall make sure that all NASA functions run smoothly by Keeping order and peaceful relations.
SECTION 8 The sponsor(s) shall act as advisors in all matters pertaining to the affairs of the Native American Student Association.
SECTION 9 At least one executive officer shall be in attendance at each committee meeting.
VOTING
SECTION 1 Each member shall have one vote.
SECTION 2 Sponsor(s) nor advisor(s) shall have a vote.
SECTION 3 Proxy votes shall not be allowed.
SECTION 4 Each member will be expected to pay his/her dues by the forth meeting of the new year, or will not be allowed to vote.
AMENDMENT to SEC 4. Passed Oct. 19,1999- Dues have been changed from mandatory to voluntary, by vote of the members Present. To not discriminate against those that are unable to pay dues due to current financial situations. Or to prevent those people from attending and Participating in all NASA functions, including voting privileges.
SECTION 5 At least one Advisor must be present at all elections, meetings, and activities.
MEETINGS
SECTION 1- Meetings will be held at a place designated by the President, who shall consider the Convenience of all members in making his/her selection.
SECTION 2 Executive Committee and Special Committee meetings will be held at a time and Place designated by the Chairman of that respective committee.
SECTION 3 The election of the President, Secretary, and Treasurer will be held two weeks Before the end of the spring school semester.
REMOVAL OF OFFICERS
SECTION 1 Any officer who is absent from three (3) consecutive Executive and/or Membership meetings, except for extenuating circumstances, may be removed From office by majority vote of the membership present.
SECTION 2 Any officer who does not fulfill the duties of his/her particular office may be removed by a majority vote of the membership present.
DUES
SECTION 1- Semester dues for members shall be $2.00 a semester or $3.00 a year.
SECTION 2 There shall be no dues for advisors or sponsors.
DISPURSEMENT OF FUNDS
SECTION 1 Should the Native American Student Association disband, any monies left in the Club treasury will be dispersed evenly among all remaining TCC student associations.
AMENDMENTS
SECTION 1 - Amendments to the Constitution and By-Laws may be made by a majority vote of the members
