ON BEING JUDGMENTAL

By Ray Thomas

One of the most insidious and evil scams run on us by today's looters (power seekers) is the admonition that we should not be judgmental, as in: "Don't judge people who are on welfare." "Don't judge gays." Don't judge people who kill their unborn children because for them to be born would be 'inconvenient.' " There are many other things they maintain we specifically should not judge, but the message is clear: "Don't judge us as we slowly enslave you in the name of 'need.' Don't ask us why when we steal more of your money to finance the theft of your rights by purchasing the votes of those to whom we give your money. Don't force us to be responsible for our acts, so we can rape you without your criticism."

In short, don't force us to be accountable.

In "The Ayn Rand Lexicon," she says this: "One must never fail to pronounce moral judgment."

She says further: "Nothing can corrupt and disintegrate a culture or a man's character as thoroughly as does the precept of "moral agnosticism," the idea that one must never pass moral judgment on others, that one must be morally tolerant of anything. It is obvious who profits and who loses by such a precept. It is not equal justice or equal treatment that you grant to men when you abstain equally from praising men's virtues and from condemning men's vices. When your impartial attitude declares, in effect, that neither the good nor the evil may expect anything from you -- whom do you betray and whom do you encourage?"

It's easy to be non-judgmental. You have only to ignore the evil things men do to each other and allow them to continue with no punishment, no condemnation. Is not the entire "Justice System" put in place ostensibly to "sit in judgment" on criminals and those who have wronged others? What chaos we would have if there were no one to "sit in judgment." Criminals would "run free" through our belongings and kill us with impunity (which they pretty much do now). When we are not allowed to judge them, soon they will sit in judgment on us by simply being meaner and more evil.

Ayn Rand says further: ...[E]very rational person must maintain an equally strict and solemn integrity in the courtroom within his own mind, where the responsibility is more awesome than in a public tribunal, because he, the judge, is the only one to know when he has been impeached." (Quotes from How Does One Lead a Rational Life in a Rational Society?" in ""Virtue of Selfishness," 89; pb 71. Emphasis in this article added.)

In short, it is essential that everybody be "judgmental." We must judge others every day, every time we come in contact with another human being in order to know how to deal with them. If someone points a gun at you and demands your money, you must judge him/her to be a criminal. If someone leaps to help you when you fall down, you must judge that person to be good-hearted, at least in this instance. The very people who say, "You're being too judgmental" are themselves being judgmental in making that statement.

You be the judge:

Should we allow others to "run free" over our rights because we think we should not "judge" them? Should we allow criminals to steal everything we have (and that includes criminals who wear badges and hold high office) without calling them to account? Should no one be held accountable for his/her actions? The power seekers would have you believe they should not. Then they can rape us without having to be accountable. Ayn Rand and I disagree.
