It was a beautiful spring day. The birds were flying through what wispy clouds were left from the early morning. They sang and danced through the air like little sky ballerinas.
Little Amber sat under a shade tree watching them. She wished so much that she could fly with the birds, the butterflies, and especially the pegasus ponies.

Her best friend, Baby Surprise was a pegasus pony. She always told how wonderful it was to be able to fly above the clouds on a cold, wet, and rainy day. She also talked of how some nights she could fly so high up in the sky that she could nearly kiss the moon.

This made Amber a little sad, for she wished with all her heart that she could fly with her. Nobody knew that Baby Surprise’s stories saddened Amber. She didn’t tell anyone about how she felt. Amber didn’t want to hurt Baby Surprise’s feelings because it might stop her from telling her stories. The stories Baby Surprise told gave Amber an idea of what it was like to be able to fly. Amber could dream and imagine what it was like to fly after Baby Surprise told her tales.

That day, Baby Surprise told Amber that she was going to fly away to a far off land for a little while to search for something special. Her parents were going to help her. She wouldn't tell little Amber what she was after because it was a secret. So Amber graciously wished her friend farewell and asked her to be back soon.

That night, little Amber felt a little more sad than usual. She wanted to fly with Baby Surprise and help her find what she was looking for.
Amber didn’t have Baby Surprise to tell her very wonderful stories, and Amber was lonely. So she went to the little pond to hear the frogs sing a song.

It was very beautiful to hear the frogs sing. The crickets sang harmony and the wind whistled in the cattails. She saw the reflection of the full moon dance upon the water. She decided to lay down in the cool green grass to watch the moon dance on the water, and listen to the ballad of nature. She watched as a few clouds slowly wandered into the sky. They floated down, making the land dense with fog, until the reflection of the moon could no longer be seen on the water.

"Oh dear, I don’t think I will be able to find my way home now," Amber said worriedly. Just then, a glowing light came from behind her and it answered to her, "Yes you will." "Who are you?" Amber asked. The light came closer until it was revealed to be a tiny fairy pony. She spoke to Amber, "I heard your wishes, and your thoughts. You wish to fly? I will grant you this wish, but it will only last for tonight." With that, the little fairy was gone, and the fog disappeared.

"Can I really fly?" she asked herself. Amber had never flown before, she didn’t even know how to start. She turned around, running away from the pond and jumped into the air. She began to fly! "Wow!" she exclaimed in excitement. Her voice echoed over the hills. She decided to fly higher, and now she was flying over the trees. "I wonder how high I can fly. Can I kiss the moon?" she asked aloud. She started to fly even higher, she had never been that high before. "I bet I am as high as a mountain," she said to the wind. The wind replied by carrying her ever higher.

The stars looked much brighter, and bigger from where she was. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the wind blowing through her hair. She decided to open them. Can you guess where she was? She was flying right in front of the moon! She slowed herself down, hovered by the moon’s face, and then kissed it. She flew off again, and turned her head over her shoulder. The moon was blushing!

Before Amber knew it, it was morning, she opened her eyes and found herself lying in the cool grass by the pond where she had been watching the water. "Amber, what are you doing way out here? I have been looking for you, and I have something for you!" called Baby Surprise. "Oh Surprise, you’re home! Guess what? I flew last night, and I kissed the moon!" Amber said happily. "Oh Amber, it was just a dream. You can’t really fly, and no one can really kiss the moon," Baby Surprise said, laughing. "What is that?" Amber asked. Baby Surprise stood with a beautifully wrapped gift in front of her. "It is for you, we traveled far away to find this for you," Baby Surprise told her.

Amber looked at the present. It was covered in blue paper and printed with white clouds upon it, and a little smiling yellow moon hiding slightly behind one of the clouds. "It’s lovely," said Amber, smiling nearly ear to ear. "You haven’t even opened it!" exclaimed Baby Surprise.

Amber began to open the present. Inside was an amber pendant with a beautiful blue butterfly inside, strung on a pink satin ribbon. "With this, you can fly any time you want to," said Baby Surprise. "Thank you," Amber said as she put it on. With that, they galloped off, jumped into the air, and flew into the clouds.
